Lucha Underground S1E14 Recap: Debut of Alberto El Patron

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw several matches that featured more experienced competitors take on opponents that are newer to The Temple. Son of Havoc failed again to get another win, by taking a loss to Angélico, who was competing in his first singles match for Lucha Underground. Pentagon Jr. defeated Famous B in a very dominant fashion, and noted that he is loyal to his “master.” Drago and Aerostar also had a great match, with Drago coming out on top. To main event the night, a returning Johnny Mundo took on a destructive Cage, and took a loss after becoming the new target for King Cuerno.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
Dario Cueto is in his office with Alberto El Patron, the newest competitor in the Temple (Currently, he wrestles in WWE as Alberto Del Rio). Alberto El Patron says that the next time he asks Dario Cueto for anything, it will be for blood.

Argenis vs. Fenix
Argenis hasn’t been able to pick up any singles wins in Lucha Underground since his debut, but there is a lot of talent, and legacy, behind Argenis. He is a second generation luchador, as well as the brother of Mysteziz (formerly known at Mistico, as well as the original Sin Cara in WWE before he was replaced by Hunico).

Fenix is perhaps the toughest competitor Argenis has faced to date. Fenix almost outlasted 19 other luchadores in the Aztec Warfare match, which crowned Prince Puma as the first-ever Lucha Underground Champion. Fenix has also been the only person to pick up a singles win against “The Man of 1,000 Deaths,” Mil Muertes. A week after his win against Mil Muertes, Catrina approached Fenix backstage and gave him a kiss.

During the match, Catrina makes her way to the ring, with unclear intentions.

Fenix counters Argenis’s attempt at a tombstone piledriver and hits a sit-out tombstone piledriver of his own on Argenis for the win. Winner: Fenix

After the match, Catrina licks a downed Argenis, while never breaking eye contact with Fenix.

Backstage Segments
Catrina approaches Mil Muertes backstage, telling him something, but Muertes cuts her off. Muertes lifts her up by her throat and tells her that he needs nothing. He leaves, and runs into Chavo Guerrero, who he chokes and slams into a wall.

We cut to Big Ryck at confession, laying out his plan of vengeance against Mr. Cisco, Cortex Castro, and Bael, after the crew betrayed him and attacked him from behind a few weeks ago.

Son of Havoc (w/Ivelisse) vs. Johnny Mundo
Last week, Son of Havoc lost to Angélico after accidentally running into his girlfriend and valet, Ivelisse. Havoc thanks Cueto for giving him “real competition,” and will dedicate this match to Ivelisse.

Johnny Mundo is coming off of a loss from last week, where he lost to Cage after King Cuerno smashed his leg into the ring post with a steel chair. He seems to have healed, but we don’t know for sure if he is 100% going into this match.

Son of Havoc goes to the top rope, but takes way too long to deliver a move onto Johnny Mundo, and Mundo hits the End of the World on Son of Havoc for the win. Winner: Johnny Mundo

After the match, King Cuerno attacks Johnny Mundo from behind, and hits the Thrill of the Hunt, confirming that Mundo is indeed the new prey for King Cuerno.

Ricky Mandel vs. Pentagon Jr.
Well, this won’t end well for Ricky Mandel. Last week, Pentagon Jr. defeated Famous B in a short match, then proceeded to break or dislocate his arm after the match.

After hitting a dropkick to Ricky Mandel in the corner, Pentagon Jr. ends the match with the same armbreaker he beat Famous B with. Winner: Pentagon Jr.

After the match, Pentagon breaks Mandel’s arm, then tells his “master” that Mandel is one more sacrifice Pentagon Jr. has given to his master.

In-ring Segment
Alberto El Patron, AAA World Heavyweight Champion at the time, enters the Temple to a huge pop from the crowd. This is very different than the reaction (or lack thereof) he gets currently on WWE television as part of the League of Nations.

El Patron is in Lucha Underground because it personifies the word “equal.” The only thing holding anyone back is if anyone doesn’t get the job done.

During his promo, Alberto El Patron gets attacked from behind by the man who El Patron defeated for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship, El Texano Jr. Although Alberto El Patron was the main attraction of this episode, El Texano Jr. stands tall to end Lucha Underground.
