Lucha Underground S1E17 Recap: El Patron’s In-Ring Debut

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw a new #1 Contender crowned for the Lucha Underground Championship. After a brutal match between Cage and Prince Puma, Konnan decided to throw in the towel for Prince Puma so they could execute their “plan.” We also saw the first singles victory for Aerostar, another sacrifice to Pentagon Jr.’s “master,” and a double count-out between Johnny Mundo and King Cuerno.

Tonight, Alberto El Patron (currently Alberto Del Rio in WWE) will have his first-ever match in Lucha Underground. Also, Sexy Star will take on Big Ryck, with the winner earning an opportunity to take on The Crew.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Backstage Segment
Alberto El Patron is in Dario Cueto’s office to demand a match against his AAA rival, Texano. After Cueto suggests other opponents, El Patron gets more aggressive with his demands, and Cueto gives Alberto El Patron what he wants. Tonight’s main event will be Alberto El Patron taking on Texano.

Mil Muertes vs. Fenix
A few weeks ago, Mil Muertes lost his valet, Catrina, to the high flying Fenix, who was the first person to defeat Mil Muertes in singles competition. The last time we saw Fenix with Catrina, they were kissing right in the direct view of Mil Muertes. As good of a competitor as Fenix is, he has a very angry Mil Muertes on his hands, and this will be quite the challenge for the high flyer. This is the third singles match between Mil Muertes and Fenix, with the first one being all the way back before Aztec Warfare, but this contest might be the most important one of them all.

During the match, Catrina makes her way down to a ring with a mysterious stone that has seemed to controlled Mil Muertes’s actions in the past.

Mil Muertes locks eyes with Catrina, who’s standing at ringside, and hits Fenix with a Flatliner for the win. Winner: Mil Muertes

After the match, Mil Muertes commands Catrina to give Fenix the lick of death, yet she refuses and Muertes slams her into the turnbuckle. Fenix picks up the mysterious stone, and knocks out Mil Muertes to save Catrina. Catrina picks up the stone, and gives the “Lick of Death” to Mil Muertes, then kisses Fenix over the downed Muertes.

Backstage Segment
Ivelisse is in Dario Cueto’s office with Son of Havoc and Angélico, and demands that she should be the #1 Contender for the Lucha Underground Championship since she defeated Angélico in a match. Cueto says that one win doesn’t mean anything, but if she wants to prove herself, she will have to win her match next week. She will have a rematch against Angélico, and Son of Havoc will be the special guest referee.

Sexy Star vs. Big Ryck
Both Sexy Star and Big Ryck have a score to settle with The Crew, and a win for either of these competitors can put them one step closer to revenge. This is (literally and figuratively) Sexy Star’s biggest challenge since debuting in Lucha Underground, but she will be determined to figth as hard as she can.

Big Ryck lifts Sexy Star up for a chokeslam, but instead places her on the mat and uses his sheer size and strength to pin her shoulders down for the three count. Winner: Big Ryck

After the match, The Crew immediately surrounds the ring and takes out both Sexy Star and Big Ryck. Big Ryck manages to counter The Crew’s attempt to take out his other eye, and cleans house, standing tall in the ring.

Alberto El Patron vs. Texano
These two are heated rivals, with their feud surrounding the AAA Mega Championship. Texano feels that Alberto El Patron “stole” the title from him, and wants his revenge, and his title back.

Texano gets his bull rope that he has used in the past, and Alberto El Patron uses it instead to cause the disqualification, but more importantly, give Texano a beating. Winner (via disqualification): Texano
