Lucha Underground S1E29 Recap: Mil Muertes Returns

Photo from El Rey Network

On the previous episode of Lucha Underground, we saw the debut of Marty “The Moth” Martinez, a rematch between Delavar Daivari and Texano, and the Trios Champions overcoming the odds yet again in a ladder match to retain their titles.

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features the return of the “Man of 1,000 Deaths,” Mil Muertes. Last week, Catrina thanked Fenix for falling into her trap, since putting Mil Muertes in the coffin was a way to make him reborn, and stronger than ever. Catrina used Dario Cueto’s love of violence to convince him to schedule a match for tonight: Mil Muertes vs. Fenix, in a deathmatch.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
Black Lotus wants revenge on the man that killed her parents, and Chavo Guerrero is ready to help her. Guerrero suggests that Black Lotus gets her revenge in the ring, for the whole world to see.

Matt Striker announces that tonight will also feature Prince Puma defending his Lucha Underground Championship against Hernandez.

Aerostar vs. Johnny Mundo
Aerostar competed in a “Best of 5” series against Drago, which he lost. Drago would get a “unique opportunity,” which would lead to him being banished from the Temple forever. In hindsight, Aerostar is better off for losing the series.

Johnny Mundo has been in Lucha Underground since day one, and did not like how Alberto El Patron just walked into The Temple, and being handed opportunities Mundo has had to work for. Because of this, Mundo attacked El Patron during a #1 Contender match two weeks ago, sending El Patron flying through the window of Dario Cueto’s office. Alberto El Patron has not been seen since.

Following a belly-to-belly suplex into the turnbuckle, an aggressive Johnny Mundo hits the End of the World on Aerostar to pick up the victory. Winner: Johnny Mundo

Backstage Segment
Vamprio is backstage with Sexy Star, who updates us on what is happening in her career. She has been feuding with Pentagon Jr., and even defeated him in a singles match. Pentagon Jr. broke the arm of her friend, Super Fly, after he was unmasked, and Sexy Star has not heard from him since. Vampiro announces that Dario Cueto scheduled a rematch between Sexy Star and Pentagon Jr., which will take place next week, and will be a submission match.

Prince Puma (c) (w/Konnan) vs. Hernandez – Lucha Underground Championship
Over the past few weeks, Hernandez has been involved in just about every match Prince Puma has had since Hernandez’s Lucha Underground debut. Hernandez was brought to Lucha Underground because of Konnan, and has since lost the respect of Konnan after his actions over the last few weeks.

Prince Puma has overcome all challengers for his Lucha Underground Championship, including Johnny Mundo and Cage, but Hernandez’s strength might make him one of the toughest challenges yet.

After several kicks to the head of Hernandez, Prince Puma hits the 630 Splash to retain the Lucha Undergrond Championship yet again. Winner, and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Prince Puma

Fenix vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) (Deathmatch)
Mil Muertes comes to the ring looking darker, and stronger than ever, after being accompanied by three mysterious men in skeleton masks.

Mil Muertes carries Fenix all the way to the top of the stands, and powerbombs Fenix through one of the perches. Mil Muertes’s followers (the men who accompanied him in his entrance) carry Henix to the ring. Mil Muertes hits the Flatliner on Fenix for the win. Winner: Mil Muertes
