Lucha Underground Recap: Six to Survive

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week, Dario Cueto announced that Ultima Lucha Dos will take place in a few weeks. In the first season of Lucha Underground, the weeks of intense action culminated at the two week Ultima Lucha, where we saw Mil Muertes become the second-ever Lucha Underground Champion, and the one-time return of Vampiro. Ultima Lucha Dos is set to be just as big of an event, if not bigger, as the first Ultima Lucha. This episode of Lucha Underground will feature the Six to Survive match to determine the new #1 Contender for Matanza Cueto’s Lucha Underground Championship.

King Cuerno vs. Ivelisse vs. Taya vs. Pentagon Jr. vs. Fenix vs. Johnny Mundo – #1 Contender’s Match, Six to Survive (Lucha Underground Championship)
Last week, all six of these competitors were on the same team as they faced Prince Puma, The Mack, Texano, Sexy Star, Son of Havoc, and Rey Mysterio. Their victory last week placed them in this match, where the winner will face the Lucha Underground Champion, Matanza Cueto, in a couple of weeks at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Originally, Pentagon Jr. was not supposed to compete in the tag team match last week. Chavo Guerrero was the original sixth member for their team, but Pentagon Jr. made an unexpected return. After rolling out in a wheelchair, Pentagon Jr. stood up to signify that his back injury was no more. He would then go on to decimate Chavo Guerrero and take his spot in the twelve-person tag team match.

In the Six to Survive match, elimination rules are at play. Once someone gets pinned or submits, they are no longer in the match. The last participant to survive will win the match.

During the match, King Cuerno looks to land the Thrill of the Hunt of Fenix when he gets speared by Mil Muertes. A few weeks ago, Mil Muertes lost to Matanza in Graver Consequences when he got put in a coffin. Cuerno took Muertes’s coffin and placed it in his trophy room. Last week, Muertes escaped from the coffin and is back for revenge. After Muertes destroys Cuerno, Johnny Mundo takes advantage, hitting the End of the World to eliminated the Hunter. Eliminated: King Cuerno

After Taya hits the nothern lights suplex and a double stomp to Ivelisse, she gets the pinfall to eliminate the former Trios Champion. Eliminated: Ivelisse

While Fenix fights Johnny Mundo outside the ring, Pentagon Jr. hits a package piledriver on Taya for the elimination. Eliminated: Taya

Almost accidentally, Pentagon Jr. and Fenix work together to eliminate Johnny Mundo and to leave only two participants remaining. Eliminated: Johnny Mundo

Pentagon hits the last of many Canadian Mexican destroyers, followed up by a vicious package piledriver on Fenix to eliminate the last participant and pick up the victory. Because of the amount of top tier competitors in this six-person elimination match, the competitiveness led to this match taking up the entire hour-long episode. Winner, and NEW #1 Contender: Pentagon Jr.

After the match, Matanza Cueto and his brother, Dario Cueto, appear at the top of the stands to stare down the new #1 Contender. Several weeks ago, Dario Cueto ordered his brother to break Pentagon Jr.’s back in a Lucha Underground Championship match, and Matanza succeeded. Pentagon Jr., out of action for several weeks because of his injury, worked with his master, Vampiro, to heal his injured back and return stronger than ever. Because of Matanza breaking Pentagon Jr.’s back, Pentagon Jr. claims that at Ultima Lucha, he will break every single one of Matanza’s bones.
