Lucha Underground Recap: Prince vs. El Rey

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week on Lucha Underground, we found out in a Six to Survive match that Pentagon Jr. would become the new #1 Contender to Matanza Cueto’s Lucha Underground Championship. With the first confirmed match for Ultima Lucha Dos set last week, how will the rest of the card shape up from tonight’s events?

Opening Segment
The show opens in Dario Cueto’s office. Cueto is sitting with the newest luchador to the Temple, Nightclaw. He is said to be a descendent of the ancient Jaguar tribe, which was the first of the seven tribes to be destroyed by the Aztec gods. There will be matches tonight involving the ancient Aztec medallions, and one of the medallions has been gifted to Nightclaw, who will debut at Ultima Lucha Dos in the Gift of the Gods Championship match.

Daga vs. Mascarita Sagrada (w/Famous B & Brenda) – Aztec Medallion Match
Daga made his first appearance in the Temple a couple of months ago, and since debuting, Daga has been practically stalked by Kobra Moon. Speaking of Kobra Moon, she is seen in the rafters during this match stalking or “scouting” Daga. Famous B took Mascarita Sagrada under his wing several months ago, but Sagrada has lossed every single match with Famous B as his manager.

Daga starts getting distracted by Kobra Moon, but he manages to keep his focus long enough to hit a Russian Leg Sweep on Sagrada. Daga turns the Russian Leg Sweep into a Crossface to make Sagrada tap out, picking up the Aztec medallion. Winner (via submission): Daga

After the match, Famous B, tired of Mascarita Sagrada’s losing streak, hits a superkick out of nowhere on his (now former) client. Famous B was embarrassed to have a client that kept losing, and vows to find a “real client.”

Backstage Segment
Dario Cueto is sitting in his office with El Dragon Azteca Jr. and continues to stir the pot between the young luchador and Black Lotus. This will come to a head at Ultima Lucha Dos, where El Dragon Azteca Jr. will face Black Lotus in her Temple debut.

Cortez Castro, Mr. Cisco, & Joey Ryan vs. Killshot, Siniestro de la Muerte, & Marty “The Moth” Martinez – Aztec Medallion Match
Whichever team wins this match will earn three Aztec medallions. This is the first time in Lucha Underground history that three Aztec medallions will be offered in the same match.

Cortez Castro, Mr. Cisco, and Joey Ryan are all in a complicated situation involving the arrest of Dario Cueto. Both Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan came to the Temple as undercover cops looking to incriminate Dario Cueto, and an arrest of Mr. Cisco has him roped into their plans as well.

Mr. Cisco and Cortez Castro look to put Siniestro de la Muerte away, but Joey Ryan hits a superkick to get all of the glory. While Joey Ryan rants about his “moment,” Marty “The Moth” Martinez and Killshot unexpectedly work together to pick up the victory and the Aztec Medallions. Winners: Killshot, Siniestro de la Muerte, & Marty “The Moth” Martinez”

Sexy Star & Mariposa vs. Ivelisse & Taya
With five Aztec Medallions given out tonight, this match will distribute the remaining two and decide who moves on to Ultima Lucha Dos.

In typical Dario Cueto fashion, both of these teams are comprised of partners who hate each other. Ivelisse and Taya have never seen eye to eye, but Sexy Star and Mariposa epitomize the word “hatred.” In between Season One and Season Two of Lucha Underground, Sexy Star was kidnapped by Mariposa and her brother, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, and assumedly tortured during her capture. After weeks of panicking whenever she saw Mariposa, Sexy Star got her revenge on her captor in the first-ever “No Mas” match, which is one of the most violent and brutal matches in Lucha Underground history.

While the referee is distracted, Mariposa hits White Noise (made famous by Sheamus in WWE) on Ivelisse. Mariposa then pushes the legal competitor, Sexy Star, onto Ivelisse who then gets the pin for the victory. Winners: Sexy Star & Mariposa

With this match in the book, the Aztec medallion holders are as follows: Mariposa, Sexy Star, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, Killshot, Siniester de la Muerte, Daga, and Nightclaw.

In-ring Segment
Prince Puma makes his way to the ring to address his hometown crowd in Boyle Heights, California for the first time ever. Prince Puma has been a former Trios Champion alongside the “King of Lucha Libre,” Rey Mysterio. Knowing that Mysterio is considered the best, Prince Puma needs to know if he can be the next Rey Mysterio, or even if he is better. To find that out, he challenges Rey Mysterio to a match at Ultima Lucha Dos. Mysterio shows respect for the former Lucha Underground Champion, and accepts his challenge.
