Lucha Underground S1E34 Recap: Texano Makes an Impact

Photo from El Rey Network

On the last episode of Lucha Underground, Super Fly got some unnecessary revenge on Sexy Star, the third Aztec medallion was given out, and there was a new #1 Contender announced for Prince Puma’s Lucha Underground Championship.

After winning a fatal four-way match, Aerostar was able to put away the recently signed Marty “The Moth” Martinez to receive the third Aztec medallion. According to Dario Cueto, these medallions will bring good fortune to their owner.

To main event the evening, Mil Muertes was given a chance to dethrone Drago of his #1 Contender status and go on to Ultima Lucha to face Prince Puma. After returning with an even darker look, and more dominant presence than ever, Muertes put away Drago to become the new #1 Contender.

On tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground, we get closer and closer to Ultima Lucha, and things are starting to shape up nicely.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
Chavo Guerrero is in Dario Cueto’s office, in hopes that Cueto will grant his final request. Chavo Guerrero is awarded a title match tonight against Prince Puma, and if Konnan gets involved at all, Chavo Guerrero automatically wins the Lucha Underground Championship.

Delavar Daivari (w/Big Ryck) vs. Texano
Several weeks ago, Texano was involved in a multi-man Lucha Underground Championship #1 Contender’s match. During that match, Texano was thrown into Delavar Daivari, who was sitting in the front row. Instead of taking out his aggression on the man who threw Texano, Daivari attacked Texano and threw him into multiple rows of chairs. After two matches ending in disqualification, perhaps this match can end cleanly. However, it doesn’t help that Daivari has hired Big Ryck for protection.

Big Ryck takes Texano’s bull rope and attempts to hit Texano with it, but instead, Texano counters and hits Big Ryck with a superkick. Texano then proceeds to hit Delavar Daivari with a sit-out powerbomb to pick up a clean victory. Winner: Texano

Backstage Segment
Konnan and Prince Puma are backstage, and Konnan says that Chavo Guerrero is not a champion. While they are preparing for Puma’s title defense, Catrina and Mil Muertes interrupt and warns Puma, telling him that he should be ready in case Mil Muertes is his next challenge.

We then see Konnan talking to an unknown ally, whose “debt” can be repaid to Konnan if he helps Puma in the main event tonight.

Drago vs. Hernandez
After Drago defeated Aerostar in a “Best of 5” series, Drago got the opportunity to face Prince Puma for the Lucha Underground Championship. During that match, Hernandez would interfere, and end up tackling Drago instead of Prince Puma, who was the intended target. Because of this, Drago would lose the match, and would be banished from the Temple until he won a #1 Contender’s match a few weeks ago. This match gives Drago a chance to get some revenge.

Hernandez takes a fan’s belt, and uses it to choke Drago, leading to a disqualification. Winner (via disqualification): Drago

Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs. Alberto El Patron
In a #1 Contender’s match against Hernandez, Alberto El Patron was attacked from behind by Johnny Mundo and sent through the window of Dario Cueto’s office. Now, El Patron’s back and he’s fired up, which does not bode well for Marty “The Moth” Martinez.

To end a very short match, Alberto El Patron locks in the Cross Armbreaker to make Martinez submit. Winner (via submission): Alberto El Patron

After the match, El Patron says that since Mundo attacked him, an evil part of him has awoken. According to El Patron, attacking him was the worst, and last, mistake Mundo has ever made.

Prince Puma (c) (w/Konnan) vs. Chavo Guerrero (w/The Crew) – Lucha Underground Championship (No Disqualification)
As usual, Prince Puma has the odds stacked against him in this match. Tonight, if Konnan interferes at all, Chavo Guerrero automatically wins the Lucha Underground Championship. Also, since there are no disqualifications, this is practically a 3-on-1 handicap match (it would be 4-on-1, but Bael is nowhere to be found).

During the match, Texano, assumedly the man Konnan was talking to earlier in the night, helps Prince Puma take care of Cortez Castro and Mr. Cisco. This sets up Prince Puma to hit the 630 Splash on Guerrero to retain his title. Winner, and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Prince Puma
