Lucha Underground Recap: Ultima Lucha Dos Pt. II

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw the first week of a three week-long Ultima Lucha Dos event. In the first part of Lucha Underground’s biggest event ever, we saw the “4 a Unique Opportunity” tournament. Son of Havoc would outlast The Mack, Cage, and Texano to earn a contract for a Lucha Underground Championship opportunity. After earning the opportunity, Famous B would bring a surprising new luchador to the Temple to take Son of Havoc’s opportunity away: Dr. Wagner Jr.

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground will be the second part of Ultima Lucha Dos. Included in tonight’s episode are the Gift of the Gods Championship match, as well as a long awaited Death Match between Mil Muertes and King Cuerno.

Daga vs. Siniestro de la Muerte vs. Mariposa vs. Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs. Sexy Star vs. Killshot vs. Night Claw – Gift of the Gods Championship (Elimination Match)
The Gift of the Gods Championship is one of the most important things that a luchador can pursue in the Temple. It can take an overlooked competitor and give their career a complete 180-degree turn. Six of these competitors (excluding Night Claw) earned a chance to be in this match by earning Aztec medallions through their respective match victories. Night Claw was given a medallion by Dario Cueto, which is quite the way to make a debut.

There are several interesting components going into this match. Daga has had to deal with his stalker, Kobra Moon, who continues to follow Daga by watching this match up close. There is the bloody feud of Mariposa and Sexy Star, who had an incredibly brutal “No Mas” match a couple of months ago. Another intense feud in this match is between Killshot and Marty “The Moth” Martinez, where Martinez keeps insulting Killshot’s former military status.

There are two wild cards in this match: Siniestro de la Muerte and Night Claw. Muerte became a singles competitor once his fellow Disciples of Death were killed by Catrina, and has been in the middle of the pack ever since. Night Claw is new to the Temple, so no one knows what to expect from him.

Night Claw counters a clothesline attempt by Siniestro de la Muerte into a standing Spanish Fly to make a very good first impression in this match. Eliminated: Siniestro de la Muerte

Night Claw continues to impress, as he looks to eliminate Daga. Night Claw succeeds in his pursuit, hitting a corkscrew 450 Splash to put away Daga.He then proceeds to go on top of Dario Cueto’s office and hit a moonsault onto luchadores at least 20 feet below. Eliminated: Daga

Killshot dodges another corkscrew 450 splash attempt from Night Claw, and hits the debuting luchador with the Storm Cradle Driver to bring the match to four competitors. Eliminated: Night Claw

Marty “The Moth” Martinez works together with his sister, Mariposa, to take care of Killshot. Marposa hits a Vertebreaker on Killshot to give the Martinez family a 2-1 advantage over Sexy Star. Eliminated: Killshot

The Moth accidentally hits Mariposa with a vicious right hand, and Sexy Star takes advantage to get the pinfall, making this a one-on-one match. Eliminated: Mariposa

Martinez takes his time with Sexy Star, which was a poor strategy. Sexy Star completes her uphill battle by locking in an armbar to submit the man who kidnapped her months ago. Winner, and NEW Gift of the Gods Champion: Sexy Star

Predicted Winner: Night Claw (0/2)

Backstage Segment
Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro are still working on their undercover case against Dario Cueto. They arrested Mr. Cisco several weeks ago, and now if Cisco does them a favor, his charges will be dropped. For now, that favor is still unknown.

King Cuerno vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) – Death Match
This is the second Death Match in Lucha Underground history, and it is sure to be as brutal as ever. King Cuerno stole the coffin that held Mil Muertes and put it in his trophy room. Mil Muertes revived, busted out of the coffin, and has had his sights set on Cuerno ever since. Catrina demanded that Muertes and Cuerno have a Death Match at Ultima Lucha Dos, and since Dario Cueto likes violence (and easy money), this match was made official.

King Cuerno tries to attack Catrina, which was his worst choice he could have made. Muertes spears Cuerno through one table, then powerbombs him through three more. While King Cuerno tries to get up in the ring, and Mil Muertes hits him in the back of the head with a crowbar, and finishes the assault with a tombstone piledriver. Winner: Mil Muertes

Predicted Winner: Mil Muertes (1/3)

Backstage Segment
Mr. Cisco enters Dario Cueto’s office to try to cozy up to the boss as a way to help Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro. Cueto finds out that Cisco is wearing a wire, and says that is the police want him, they can come find him. Cueto then proceeds to bludgeon Mr. Cisco to death to end this episode of Lucha Underground.
