Lucha Underground Recap: Killshot’s Redemption

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features a brand new type of match for the Temple: Killshot vs. Marty “The Moth” Martinez in a Weapons of Mass Destruction match. Along with what is sure to be a brutal main event, perhaps we will learn more about Dario Cueto and the overarching story that involved his arrest.

Opening Segment
Things seem a little heated at the detective agency that wants to take down Dario Cueto. In their last effort, they sent in Mr. Cisco to Dario Cueto’s office with a wire, which Cueto immediately figured out. Cueto would then bludgeon Mr. Cisco with a red bull (not the energy drink) that is on his desk, then he would get locked up for murder. As we saw last week, however, Cueto has connections in high places that got him out of prison and back to the temple.

Dr. Wagner (w/Brenda & Famous B) vs. Mascarita Sagrada
At Ultima Lucha Dos, Son of Havoc won a “unique opportunity,” which was stolen from him when Dr. Wagner Jr. made his first appearance in the Temple to defeat Havoc in a surprise match,

Mascarita Sagrada gets a little bit of lucha libre offense in, but Dr. Wagner immediately counters Sagrada coming off the ropes into the Dr. Driver (pretty much the Michinoku/Metalik Driver) to put him away. Famous B has sure found a successful client this time around with Wagner. Winner: Dr. Wagner Jr.

Video Package
A flashback video plays showing the head of the aforementioned detective agency when she was a young girl. Since this is Lucha Underground, that was 1,000 years ago. Her father gave her an amulet, Piedo Immortal, that would make her immortal as soon as she became a grown woman so she can win her tribe’s war. This could have something to do with the case against Dario Cueto.

More flashback video plays, but this time it’s back at the agency before Ultima Lucha Dos even happened, and the lead detective only has half of the amulet. It turns out that Dario Cueto was not the one they were after, but he was the inside link to their real enemies. Apparently, Cortez Castro messed this up, so he is suspended.

Argenis vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina)
Mil Muertes is the most dominant figure in Lucha Underground history, only to be questioned by Matanza Cueto. Catrina, who seems to be controlling Muertes, accepted Ivelisse’s challenge to a match at Ultima Lucha Tres, which is dozens of weeks away.

Argenis has ten years of lucha libre experience, but that does not help his case against the Man of 1,000 Deaths. Muertes spears Argenis, then hits him with the Flatliner for the win. Winner: Mil Muertes

After the match while Catrina goes for the Lick of Death, Prince Puma appears out of nowhere and attacks Muertes. Who knows how badly these two would have fought, but Catrina forces Muertes to break it up. This renews a rivalry that goes back to the first Ultima Lucha, where Mil Muertes became the first person to defeat Puma for the Lucha Underground Championship.

Backstage Segment
Joey Ryan approaches Dario Cueto in his office, and tells him that he knows that he killed Mr. Cisco. Further more, Ryan admits to him the he and Cortez Castro were undercover cops. Ryan knows that a war of some kind is coming, and that when it gets here, he wants to be on Cueto’s side.

Right after that, we switch gears to Cortez Castro confirming that he is on the other side. This means one thing: both Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro have to make their way back to The Temple.

Killshot vs. Marty “The Moth” Martinez – Weapons of Mass Destruction Match
A “Weapons of Mass Destruction” match is essentially an Extreme Rules match. Anything is legal, including any weapon they can think of. To set the scene, the Temple is set up militaristically since Killshot used to be in the armed forces.

Last season, Marty “The Moth” Martinez would antagonize Killshot perhaps a bit too much, especially when he stole Killshot’s dogtags.

After knocking the interfering Mariposa through a table, Killshot gets his dogtags back, and hits the double stomp on Martinez from a 20-ft ladder through a table to pick up the victory. Winner: Killshot

Backstage Segment
Mil Muertes is backstage punching a locker out of rage, and tells Catrina that he wants Prince Puma. Catrina mentions that she has been waiting hundreds of years to get what she wants, and holds up the other half of the medallion.
