The report says the Miami Marlins placed prospect Robby Snelling on the 15-day injured list Wednesday after he suffered a UCL sprain in his left elbow following his major league debut.
The team’s No. 2 prospect reported discomfort in his left elbow after a bullpen session and will undergo further testing before the club decides on next steps, the report says. Manager Clayton McCullough acknowledged Snelling’s disappointment, saying, “Robby was certainly disappointed. You know, you work your entire life for the opportunity to become a major league player, and you come up, and you make your major league debut, and then for something to pop up like this very shortly after, it’s disappointing.”
The Marlins filled Snelling’s roster spot by activating closer Pete Fairbanks from the 15-day IL, per the report. Fairbanks had been out of the lineup since April 27 with nerve irritation in his right hand, the report adds.
Snelling made his major league debut on May 8, delivering five solid innings in a loss to the Nationals and had been scheduled to start Thursday’s series finale against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, the report says. Instead, right-hander Braxton Garrett has joined the team in Minneapolis and is expected to be activated for Thursday’s game.
The report notes Miami acquired the 22-year-old Snelling from San Diego in exchange for reliever Tanner Scott in July 2024. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
