Olympique de Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi has expressed strong confidence in forward Mason Greenwood’s future, suggesting the 23-year-old has the talent to become one of the game’s elite. Speaking to reporters, De Zerbi remarked on Greenwood’s skill set and noted that the player possesses the qualities necessary to compete for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in the future.

Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United in 2024 and has since been a focal point in the club’s attack. Known for his technical ability, two-footed finishing, and composure in front of goal, Greenwood’s performances have drawn attention in Ligue 1 and across European competitions. De Zerbi praised the forward’s mentality and dedication during training and matches, citing these traits as essential for reaching the highest individual accolades in football.

Since his arrival at the French club, Greenwood has worked to regain form and consistency, contributing goals and assists during Marseille’s campaign. De Zerbi acknowledged that while Greenwood is still developing as a player, the forward has already demonstrated a high ceiling and the potential to evolve into one of the top performers in the sport.

The Ballon d’Or is awarded annually by France Football to the best male football player in the world, as judged by journalists from around the globe. De Zerbi emphasized that earning such recognition will require not only individual brilliance but sustained team success and effort across multiple seasons.

Marseille has positioned itself as a competitive force in Ligue 1 and European competitions, and Greenwood’s continued progress under De Zerbi could play a significant role in the club’s ambitions. While there are no guarantees in professional football, De Zerbi’s endorsement highlights the significant expectations surrounding Greenwood’s development and the high regard in which he is held by his current coaching staff.
