Both teams will attempt to extend their winning streaks as the Maryland Terrapins (12-3, 3-1 Big 10) take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (12-2, 2-1 Big 10) at Williams Arena. The Terrapins have won six consecutive games, while the Golden Gophers have won their last five games. The game gets underway at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.

Maryland Terrapins vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers Free Prediction

In the Terrapins’ last outing, they topped the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, 73-67. One of Maryland’s biggest advantages was getting to the free throw line. They had 30 free throw attempts, 19 more than Delaware. Maryland was led by Jalen Smith, who was the team’s high scorer with 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting.

The Golden Gophers easily got past the Omaha Mavericks in their last contest, 104-76. The Golden Gophers had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (44.4 vs. 17.1) and had a much better effective field goal percentage (0.710 vs. 0.500). With 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Minnesota’s Jordan Murphy had a good performance.

The battle on the backboards could prove decisive, pitting strength against strength. The Golden Gophers rank 14th in offensive rebounding percentage (37.2 percent), while Maryland ranks 27th in defensive rebounding percentage (76.5 percent).

Both teams have had a player step their game up over their last five games. Anthony Cowan Jr. (0 points) has been fantastic for the Terrapins while Murphy (0 points) has contributed greatly to the Golden Gophers.

After the Terrapins won the lone game against the Golden Gophers last season, 77-66, this will be the first matchup of the year between these two teams. Maryland’s 0.422 free throw rate was their biggest advantage over Minnesota, who had a mark of 0.219.
