Dallas Mavericks rookie forward Cooper Flagg has been medically cleared to return to action after missing the team’s last eight games with a left midfoot sprain, according to sources. The clearance marks an important step in the Mavericks’ effort to get back to full strength as the season progresses.

Flagg, one of the most closely watched first-year players in the league, had been sidelined while the team and medical staff took a cautious approach to his recovery. The midfoot sprain, located in the central area of the foot, can be sensitive to repeated stress, and the organization prioritized long‑term health over a quick return. During his absence, Flagg focused on treatment, rehabilitation work, and gradually ramping up on-court activity under supervision.

With medical clearance now in place, the Mavericks are expected to reintegrate Flagg into team activities and game action as he regains rhythm and conditioning. Teams typically monitor minutes and workload for players coming off lower‑body injuries, and Dallas is expected to evaluate how Flagg responds to increased intensity in practices and games before returning him to his full role.

Flagg’s return gives the Mavericks an additional two-way presence in their rotation. His length, instincts, and versatility on both ends of the floor had drawn attention early in his rookie campaign, and his ability to defend multiple positions and contribute as a scorer and playmaker on the wing adds another dimension to Dallas’ lineup options.

During the eight games Flagg missed, the Mavericks adjusted their rotations by leaning more on their remaining forwards and perimeter players. Coaches shuffled lineups to cover his minutes, testing different combinations on the wing and in small‑ball looks. Getting Flagg back allows the staff to return closer to their preferred structure and to reestablish roles that had taken shape earlier in the season.

The team will now focus on helping Flagg transition smoothly from rehabilitation back into the nightly demands of the NBA schedule. His status will continue to be evaluated as he resumes full participation, but his clearance to return is an encouraging sign for both the player and the franchise as they move into the next phase of the season.
