Memphis Grizzlies – Brooklyn Nets Preview – 02.10.2016

The Brooklyn Nets (12-34) face off against the visiting Memphis Grizzlies (26-20) at the Barclays Center. The game gets underway at 7:30 pm ET on Wednesday, Feb. 10 and will air on YES and FxS.

The Nets are expecting a different result after their 102-98 loss to the Heat in their last matchup. Andrea Bargnani was the team’s high scorer with 20 points. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are coming off a 108-102 win over the Magic in their last game. Jeff Green was the game’s top scorer, posting 30 points on 11-for-18 shooting.

Over the last five games, Marc Gasol has been hot for the Grizzlies. During that stretch, he has averaged 22.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.0 blocks.

Trips to the foul line may prove key for the Grizzlies in this one. They’re ranked fifth in the league in free throw attempt rate (30.7), while Brooklyn is among the best at keeping opponents off of the charity stripe (ranking third by allowing a free throw attempt rate of 23.7).

This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams. The Grizzlies won the first game 101-91. Mike Conley was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points.

The Nets come into this game 14-39 Straight Up (SU) and 26-26-1 Against The Spread (ATS). They have gone 14-39 SU and 26-26-1 ATS against teams from the Western Conference. The Nets have seen an uptick in scoring as of late, averaging 105.3 points during the last 10 games compared to their season average of 96.4 points per game.

On the other side, the Grizzlies head into the game with records of 23-26-3 ATS and 30-22 SU. Memphis has records of 30-22 SU and 23-26-3 ATS against the East. The Grizzlies are one of the top defensive teams on the road, essentially shutting down opponents to the tune of 97.8 points allowed per away game. Taking care of the basketball is something the Grizzlies do very well, averaging just 12.6 turnovers per game.

Memphis beat Brooklyn in their most recent meeting this season, moving its SU record against the Nets to 6-4 in their last 10 head-to-head meetings. With a 6-4 record, the Nets have the advantage ATS.
