Micky van de Ven has firmly rejected suggestions that he or his Tottenham Hotspur teammates lack commitment to the club, dismissing such claims as untrue and unfair. The defender spoke out in response to external criticism questioning the attitude and dedication of the squad during a challenging period for Spurs.
Van de Ven stressed that every player in the dressing room is fully aware of the team’s current situation and feels a strong responsibility to improve results. He underlined that the group is working hard in training and in matches, and that any perception of indifference does not reflect what is happening inside the club.
According to the Dutch centre-back, the squad takes the team’s performances and league position extremely seriously. He described the players as a tight unit determined to respond positively on the pitch, adding that standards within the group remain high even when results or performances fall below expectations.
Van de Ven also addressed the emotional side of playing for Tottenham, indicating that the club’s supporters and the badge carry significant weight in the dressing room. He suggested that criticism about a lack of care can be particularly hurtful because many of the players feel a strong connection to the club, its history, and its fans.
He acknowledged that from the outside it can sometimes appear that players are not giving everything, especially when the team is going through a difficult run. However, he insisted that the intensity and effort shown in daily work at the training ground and in preparation for matches reflect a group fully committed to turning things around.
The defender’s comments were aimed at reinforcing the message that Tottenham’s squad remains united, focused, and accountable. Van de Ven reiterated that, while scrutiny is part of playing at a high level, suggestions that players do not care about the club’s precarious position are, in his view, completely unfounded. He emphasized that the team’s priority is to respond on the field and to show, through performances and results, the level of commitment that he believes already exists within the squad.
