Minnesota Wild at San Jose Sharks Odds

San Jose (-155) is currently the favorite over Minnesota (+135), and the oddsmakers have set the Over/Under (O/U) at 6 goals (-120 for the over, +100 for the under).

Minnesota is 8-5 straight up (SU) and has earned 2.3 units for moneyline bettors this season. Through 13 regular season contests, six of its games have gone over the total, while another six have gone under and just one has pushed. This 2018-19 Wild team is 3-3 SU on the road.

The Wild have scored on 18.6 percent of their power play chances so far. That figure’s down some from last season, when they were ranked 16th in the NHL by scoring on 20.6 percent of their extra-man opportunities. Their penalty kill has gotten stronger since last year, as they’ve gone from successfully defending 80.9 percent of opponents’ power plays (ranked 12th overall last year) to 85.2 percent this year..

Averaging 31.4 saves per game with a .937 save percentage, Devan Dubnyk (6-4-2) has been the primary option in goal for Minnesota this season. If head coach Bruce Boudreau chooses to rest him, however, Minnesota could turn to Alex Stalock (2-1 record, .895 save percentage, 3.30 goals against average).

On the other side of the ice, San Jose is 7-7 straight up (SU) and has lost 4.8 units for moneyline bettors thus far. Through 14 regular season contests, eight of its games have gone over the total, while six have gone under and none have pushed. It’s 3-3 SU at home thus far.

The Sharks have converted on just 21.3 percent of their power play chances this season, a figure that’s right around league average. On the other hand, its penalty kill is ranked third overall, and it’s successfully killed off 87.8 percent of all opponent power plays.

Martin Jones (24.4 saves per game) has been the top choice in the crease for the Sharks. Jones has six wins, four losses, and one OT loss to his credit and has registered a fairly-weak .900 save percentage and 2.69 goals against average this year.
