MLB News: Curt Schilling Considering Run for Senate, Yasiel Puig Becomes U.S. Citizen and More

The 2020 ballot for U.S. Senate in Arizona might contain a familiar name to baseball fans: Curt Schilling. Schilling, the former Phillies, Diamondbacks and Red Sox pitcher who has gained some support for the Hall of Fame, also is an outspoken conservative. President Donald Trump himself offered his support via Twitter for Schilling, while others decried his politics. Schilling, it should be said, hasn’t decided for sure whether to run. Meanwhile, there will be a new eligible voter in Ohio during next year’s election: Indians outfielder Yasiel Puig became a U.S. citizen on Wednesday.

Schilling is a noted collector of Nazi memorabilia, has denied that school shootings took place and publicly worn a T-shirt hinting that journalists should be hanged. He’s also got the full endorsement of President Trump.

Yasiel Puig served the final day of a three-game suspension Wednesday that stemmed from a brawl while he was with Cincinnati. He didn’t waste the day off.

Rafael Devers stole the spotlight in Cleveland on Tuesday night, but Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale set a record of his own.

The red-hot Indians could be getting back ace Corey Kluber soon, plus Carlos Carrasco, who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year.

Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is among the NL’s leading hitters at .332, but he’ll need at least 10 days on the injured list.
