MLB Picks: The Seattle Mariners are favored on Saturday night as they host the Los Angeles Angels. It could be an important game for the Seattle Mariners if they are still in the Wild Card race. It likely won’t mean much to the Los Angeles Angels who have already clinched a playoff spot. The pitching edge should be with the home team as they are expected to have James Paxton on the mound while the Los Angeles Angels should be sending Cory Rasmus.
Here is a look at the matchup and MLB predictions.
Probable Pitchers – Rasmus vs. Paxton
Cory Rasmus has only started five times this season be he has been a pretty good fill in pitcher. His ERA for the season is 2.38 and he has only given up 39 hits in 53 innings. He is 3-1 on the season and he could be a good long man coming out of the bullpen for the team in the playoffs.
James Paxton had been rolling along in his career until last time out when he simply couldn’t control his pitches in a loss to Toronto. It was the first bad outing in Paxton’s career. He had gone 15 starts without giving up a lot of runs until Monday when he allowed eight earned runs and seven hits in 2.2 innings. He is now 6-4 on the season with a 3.03 ERA. He is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA in three starts against the Los Angeles Angels this year.
Game Notes
The Los Angeles Angels had won six of the last ten in this series before it began with the last two games going under. They had also taken six of the last ten in Seattle with three of the last five games going under.
MLB Predictions
The Seattle Mariners simply can’t score enough runs to win consistently. They do have the pitching edge on Saturday if Paxton gets back to form but I don’t trust the team to win. I will avoid a side and take the game under the total.
