MLB Picks: Regular season concludes Sunday as Padres visit Giants

MLB Picks:  The Major League Baseball regular season comes to an end on Sunday with a full slate of games including the San Diego Padres visiting the San Francisco Giants.  The Padres are just playing out the string while the Giants are getting ready for a Wild Card playoff game on Wednesday.  This could be a good spot to take the road underdog against the baseball betting odds.

San Diego Padres Pitching

Most people don’t realize that the Padres have the second best pitching staff in the league. They have an ERA of 3.22 this season.  The team should be going with Robbie Erlin as their starter on Sunday. He has actually been one of the few starters who haven’t done much. He is 4-4 this season with a 4.53 ERA.  If Erlin does get the start he won’t be going deep into the game as he rarely goes more than five or six innings.

San Francisco Giants Pitching

There is a good chance that the Giants throw one of their young pitchers on Sunday since this game probably won’t mean anything. It is the normal rotation spot for Madison Bumgarner but it is almost a certainty that they will hold Bumgarner back to pitch in the Wild Card game on Wednesday. The Giants are 9th in the league in team ERA as they are allowing about 3.4 runs per game.

Game Notes

The Padres had actually won six of the last ten in this series before it began with two of the last three going under. The Giants had won six of the last ten at home with four of the last five going under.  The Giants will be playing either the Pirates or the Cardinals in the Wild Card game on Wednesday and there is a good chance they will be playing that game on the road.

This game will likely mean nothing to the Giants so we’ll take a shot with the road underdog in this regular season finale.
