MLB Power Rankings For Week 13

MLB

There has been a lot of movement this week with a new No. 1 and surprisingly, it isn’t the New York Yankees or Houston Astros. The Los Angeles Dodgers have played excellent ball in the month of June and have now moved into the favorite role according to the sports betting odds makers. They now have 52 wins, which is one shy of the league-leading Houston Astros. Their run differential is a healthy +137 – the best in baseball – and of course, they have Clayton Kershaw, who is arguably the game’s best pitcher. We’ll start with them as we look at the power rankings for Week 13.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

Last Week: 3

World Series Championship Odds: +450

The Dodgers jump to the top of the rankings and lead the National League West by 1.5 games over Arizona. They swept Colorado at home last week before losing two of three in their home-and-home with the Angels before Thursday, then they head to San Diego and back home for Arizona. Joc Pederson had a big week with a .333 average, three homers and five RBIs. On the mound, Clayton Kershaw and Kenta Maeda didn’t allow a run in 14.0 combined innings as the Dodgers had a 2.14 ERA as a staff.

2. Houston Astros

Last Week: 1

World Series Championship Odds: +550

The Astros still lead the American League West by 12.5 games over the Angels after winning two of three in Seattle, and they’ve won the first two of three at home against Oakland. Next, it’s the New York Yankees at home and then off to Atlanta for two games. Josh Reddick hit .526 (the Astros hit .319 overall) with two homers and seven RBIs, while Michael Feliz had a huge week from the bullpen. Feliz was 2-0 in three appearances, allowing a run in 3.2 innings, which was needed as the Astros had a 5.95 ERA overall.

3. Washington Nationals

Last Week: 4

World Series Championship Odds: +800

The Nationals lead the New York Mets in the NL East by 9.5 games after winning two of three at home against Cincinnati and the Chicago Cubs, with one game left against the Cubs. Next is a trip to St. Louis before the Mets come to Washington. Michael Taylor hit .429 with three home runs and eight RBIs for the week. On the mound, the Nationals had a 3.29 ERA, but Stephen Strasburg continues to be up and down, going 1-0 in two starts, but he had an ERA of 5.25.

4. New York Yankees

Last Week: 5

World Series Championship Odds: +800

The Yankees are tied with the Red Sox at the top of the AL East as they lost two of three at home to Texas, and they’ve won the first two of three in Chicago against the White Sox. Then it is off to Houston and back home to face Toronto. Aaron Judge continued his monster rookie season by hitting .364 this week with three homers and eight RBIs. Masahiro Tanaka had arguably his best week of the year, going 1-0 in two starts with a 1.29 ERA.

5. Boston Red Sox

Last Week: 8

World Series Championship Odds: +800

The Red Sox are right there with the Yankees in the AL East after losing two of three at home to the Angeles, but they’ve won two of the first three at home against Minnesota. Next are trips to Toronto and Texas. Mitch Moreland batted .368 with three homers and four RBIs over the week, but reigning Cy Young winner Rick Porcello continues to struggle. He split two starts last week with an ERA of 5.11, and he is now the first 10-loss pitcher in the majors.

6. Cleveland Indians

Last Week: 6

World Series Championship Odds: +800

The Indians are ahead of Minnesota by 0.5 games in the AL Central even though they were swept by the Twins on the road, but they’ve won two of the first three at home against Texas. Then, they’ll head on the road to Detroit, and then return home for San Diego. Austin Jackson hit .429 with three RBIs, but the Indians hit just three homers as a team. Corey Kluber is still red-hot as he gave up no earned runs and had 13 strikeouts, his third start in a row with 10 or more. However, he had a no-decision as the Indians lost to the Twins.

7. Chicago Cubs

Last Week: 2

World Series Championship Odds: ++800

The Cubs trail Milwaukee by a game in the NL Central after losing two of three in Miami and Washington (before Thursday’s finale). Then it is on to Cincinnati before coming home to host Tampa Bay, and Wilson Contreras hit .278 with three homers and five RBIs last week. It wasn’t a good week for John Lackey, who lost both of his starts and had a rough 7.15 ERA.

8. Colorado Rockies

Last Week: 7

World Series Championship Odds: +1000

The Rockies are third in the NL East after getting swept on the road in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and they now trail the Dodgers by 5.5 games. Colorado hit just .206 as a team, and Nolan Arenado hit .214 with no homers and two RBIs. The pitching wasn’t much better as the Rockies had an 8.16 ERA as a staff, and Jeff Hoffman was the only starter that had an ERA lower than 6.75.

9. Arizona Diamondbacks

Last Week: 9

World Series Championship Odds: +1200

The Diamondbacks are behind the Dodgers by 1.5 games after being home all week, winning three of four over Philadelphia and then splitting the first two of three against St. Louis. Next, the Rockies come to town and then they go to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers. Chris Herrmann batted .467 with a home and seven RBIs, while the Diamondbacks had a 2.52 ERA. Zack Greinke got a win in his lone start, allowing a run in five innings in a victory over the Phillies.

10. Seattle Mariners

Last Week: —

World Series Championship Odds: +4500

The Mariners enter the power rankings fourth in the AL West, 14.5 games behind Houston after losing two of three at home to Houston, then both home games to Philadelphia. Next, the Mariners head to Los Angeles to face the Angels, then back home for Kansas City. Robinson Cano hit .292 with three homers and 10 RBIs, while Felix Hernandez split a pair of starts, posting an ERA of 4.50.
