MLB Betting:  The high scoring Los Angeles Angels visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in a contest that will be televised by TBS.  The Angels are averaging almost 5 runs per game this season but they should get a good test on Sunday against the Rays and starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi who is 3-0 in his last three starts.  Here is a look at the matchup and MLB predictions.

Probable Pitching Matchup – Jered Weaver vs. Jake Odorizzi

Jered Weaver did not pitch well on Tuesday as he gave up six runs to the Baltimore Orioles.  The offense bailed him out in a game that the team ultimately lost in extra innings. Weaver has been pretty consistent this season so the start against the Orioles may just have been a blip. Weaver is 11-6 on the season with a 3.62 ERA.

Jake Odorizzi comes into this start at 7-8 with a 3.80 ERA. He has been really good lately with a 3-0 mark and a 2.33 ERA in his last three starts. He shut down the Milwaukee Brewers last time out as he allowed just one run on three hits. He has thrown five innings in his career against the Angels with a win and an ERA of 1.80.

Game Notes

The Angels are averaging nearly five runs per game and allowing just under four runs per game but they have not been that great on the road this season as they are just barely above the .500 mark.  The Rays have played really well of late but even with their hot streak they are still under .500 and they have a losing record at home. They are averaging just under 4 runs per game while allowing 3.6 runs per contest.  They had dropped six of the last ten against the Angels before this series started.  The teams had split their last ten meetings in Tampa with four of the last five going under.

MLB Predictions

We’ll look for Weaver and Odorizzi to both pitch well on Sunday and for the game to go under the total.
