Monday Night Raw Recap: Goldberg Returns

Hell in a Cell is two weeks away, but everyone has there eyes on Monday Night Raw for one thing tonight: the return of Goldberg.

Opening Segment
Kevin Owens makes his way down to the ring accompanied by his best friend Chris Jericho. They start hyping Owens’s Universal Championship Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins, when the challenger interrupts both of them. After taunting JeriKO and calling Y2J “sparklecrotch,” a spontaneous match gets underway. To prove himself, Jericho sends Owens to the back.

Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho
Last week, Rollins and Jericho squared off in the main event of Raw. If Jericho won, he would be put in the Universal Championship Hell in a Cell match against Rollins and Owens. However, Rollins would pick up the victory to keep the match one-on-one.

Kevin Owens comes down to the ring and tries to help Jericho win, but Rollins gets yet another Pedigree on Jericho for the win. Winner: Seth Rollins

Golden Truth & Mark Henry vs. The Shining Stars & Titus O’Neil
On the pre-show, The Shining Stars and Titus O’Neil tried to sell their opponents watches. When they wouldn’t sell, they made a deal: if Golden Truth and Mark Henry lose, they have to buy the watches.

Titus O’Neil doesn’t see R-Truth tag in Mark Henry, and Henry hits the World Strongest Slam on O’Neil for a victorious return. Winners: Golden Truth & Mark Henry

Backstage Segment
Chris Jericho gets angry at Kevin Owens for possibly costing him the match earlier, and almost calls him a stupid idiot. Stephanie McMahon interrupts, announces that she accepts Shane McMahon’s Survivor Series challenge and hopes that they stay on the same page.

Big E (w/Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. Sheamus (w/Cesaro)
Last week, Cesaro faced Kofi Kingston, and lost due to a distraction by his “partner.” Tonight, the Celtic Warrior squares off against the biggest member of the New Day.

Sheamus is too worried about Cesaro streaming to Facebook Live at ringside, and this would give Big E a chance to roll up Sheamus to put him away. Winner: Big E

Bo Dallas (w/Curtis Axel) vs. Neville
Last week, Dallas and Axel issued an open challenge for a tag team match, and they would end up losing to Sami Zayn and Neville. Curtis Axel feels bad about their loss, and went to Mick Foley to give Dallas this match tonight.

Neville looks to have Bo Dallas set up for the Red Arrow, but Dallas sweeps  him on the apron, and the Man That Gravity Forgot crashes hard. Dallas then hits his version of the Cross Rhodes to get what some might consider an upset victory. Winner: Bo Dallas

After the match, Dallas turns on Curtis Axel and attacks him, throwing him around the ringside area.

Dana Brooke vs. Bayley
Bayley picked up a victory in [almost] her hometown last week, and Dana Brooke attacked her while she was celebrating. The former NXT Women’s Champion looks to get some revenge tonight.

Brooke slams Bayley from the second rope and picks up a surprising upset victory. This was so surprising that even the commentators seemed thrown off. Winner: Dana Brooke

Backstage Segment
Paul Heyman is live via satellite to give his thoughts about the challenge he laid down last week for Lesnar vs. Goldberg at assumedly Survivor Series. Heyman says that Goldberg wouldn’t fly to Raw to say “no,” but that is what Heyman recommends.

Braun Strowman vs. The Mile High Trio (Local Talent)
After asking for more competition, Strowman got three local wrestlers to destroy instead of just two. Winner: Braun Strowman

After demanding more competition, Sami Zayn of all people shows up to give Strowman what he wants. Strowman shoves Zayn out of the ring and walks away. In the backstage area, Zayn says that he stood up to Strowman because “nobody else will.”

In-ring Segment
Since Roman Reigns (the United States Champion) is from a big Samoan family known for wrestling, Rusev (the challenger for the title) shows of his family. As soon as he gets to his cousins, Reigns interrupts just like during his wedding celebration.

Lana slaps Reigns, the Rusev immediately follows up with a kick to the head. The assaul ends with Rusev locking in the Accolade on top of steel steps in the middle of the ring.

Karl Anderson (w/Luke Gallows) vs. Big Cass (w/Enzo Amore)
Enzo and Big Cass were scheduled for tag team action last week, when Gallows and Anderson attacked them from behind. Before this match gets going, Big Cass already hits Karl Anderson with the East River Crossing side slam for a surprisingly quick victory. Winner: Big Cass

Brian Kendrick, Tony Nese, & Drew Gulak vs. Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, & TJ Perkins
Before the match, Brian Kendrick seemed to be getting Drew Gulak and Tony Nese to become allies with him, and to perhaps help his quest for the Cruiserweight Championship.

After Tony Nese hits a 450 Splash on Rich Swann, Brian Kendrick tags himself in to lock in the Captain’s Hook, forcing Swann to tap out. Winners (via submission): Brian Kendrick, Tony Nese, & Drew Gulak

Goldberg Returns
For the first time in 12 years, Goldberg steps in a WWE ring to answer the challenge Paul Heyman laid out last week. After thanking the fans for a humble return, he responds plain and simple: Brock Lesnar’s next, and he’s last.
