Monday Night Raw Recap: Three New Cruiserweights!

After Clash of Champions last night, Monday Night Raw looks forward to Hell in a Cell on October 30. Before anything new starts up, WWE has already announced two championship rematches for tonight. Rusev will cash in his United States Championship rematch, and Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson get another shot at the Tag Team Championships.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Rusev (w/Lana) – United States Championship
To kick of Raw, Rusev challenges Reigns to hopefully gain back the United States Championship. Rusev seemed to have Reigns beat last night, but after Lana was ejected from ringside, Reigns put away the Bulgarian Brute. This rematch is taking place less than 24 hours after Reigns won the belt, so it would be an impressively short reign (no pun intended) if Rusev wins the title back.

After both men fail to put each other away, they start brawling outside of the ring. The fight continues into the crowd, and they are both counted out. Result (via count-out): Draw

In-ring Segment
Raw General Manager Mick Foley is in the ring to address the finale to Sheamus and Cesaro’s match last night. After a vicious brawl, the match was called a no contest by the referee and medical personnel. Before doing so, Foley invites both competitors to the ring.

Since the Best of Series ended in a draw, Mick Foley decides to give them the same championship opportunity: an opportunity for the Raw Tag Team Championships.

The New Day (c) vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson – Raw Tag Team Championships
On paper, it would seem like Gallows and Anderson should stop getting championship opportunities. That would be the case, if Xavier Woods didn’t hit Karl Anderson with Francesca II to get a cheating victory last night. Because of that, Gallows and Anderson get yet another opportunity.

Kofi Kingston gets busted open getting slammed into the steel steps, but he still manages to hit Trouble in Paradise on Karl Anderson to yet again retain the tag titles. Winners, and STILL Raw Tag Team Champions: The New Day

Michael Cole announces that after a botched super gutbuster last night, Seth Rollins has suffered a rub injury and has not been medically cleared to compete tonight.

Bayley vs. Anna Fields
It looks like Bayley is the latest Superstar to square off against local talent. Fields get some impressive offense in, but Bayley makes quick work of Fields, hitting the Bayley-to-Belly for the win. Winner: Bayley

Rich Swann & Cedric Alexander vs. Lince Dorado & Drew Gulak
After a fatal four way last week and the Cruiserweight Championship match last night, the new cruiserweight division rolls on in tag team action. Lince Dorado was confirmed for the division, but seeing Drew Gulak is a nice surprise. It will be the first time the casual audience will see both Dorado and Gulak in action, and they are in for a treat.

After an insane sequences of vicious moves, Rich Swann gets a quick roll-up of Drew Gulak to pick up the victory. Winners: Rich Swann & Cedric Alexander

Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Nick Cutler & Willis Williams
Cesaro and Sheamus hate each other. Mick Foley does not want them to destroy each other any further, so he put them together in a potentially dominant tag team.

While it wasn’t cooperative, Sheamus and Cesaro put Cutler and Williams away in quick fashion. Winners: Cesaro & Sheamus

In-ring Segment
Charlotte goes to the ring to gloat about her Women’s Championship victory last night, when Sasha Banks immediately interrupts. Since Banks was not pinned in the triple threat match, she is still owed her one-on-one rematch for the championship. Banks issues a challenge, then throws Charlotte and Dana Brooke out of the ring. If Foley approves, we should get a championship match next week.

TJ Perkins vs. Tony Nese
Tony Nese is another nice surprise for the Raw Cruiserweight Division. He is a great combination of speed, agility, and strength, making him the self-proclaimed “Premier Athlete.” This will not be an easy feat for TJ Perkins, who prepares for another WWE Cruiserweight Championship match against Brian Kendrick next week.

Tony Nese gives perhaps the most impressive showing any Cruiserweight has so far, but Perkins had him well scouted. After a Pele kick to Nese, Perkins locks in his signature kneebar for the victory. Winner (via submission): TJ Perkins

Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel feat. Kevin Owens
After helping Kevin Owens retain the Universal Championship, Chris Jericho invites his best friend to his talk show. Owens talks trash about Seth Rollins, then Rollins tries to come to the ring to attack Owens. Security immediately stop him, since he is not medically cleared to be in the arena.

After Rollins is escorted to the back, Enzo Amore and Big Cass show up to confront Jeri-KO. After Jericho threatens to sit on Cass’s lap, it is announced that they are going to have a (cue Teddy Long) tag team match.

Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho
These two teams feuded before Kevin Owens won the Universal Championship, but have butted heads again tonight. Big Cass was in the match that Owens won for the championship, but he would be the first person eliminated.

During the match, it is announced that Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson (known from That 70’s Show among other things) will be guest stars on Raw next week after Jericho made fun of them last week.

Cass launches himself and Jericho out of the ring, giving Owens the opportunity to hit the Pop-up Powerbomb on Enzo Amore for the victory. Winners: Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho
