Monmouth and Iona Set For Rematch

Nearly three weeks ago, Monmouth and Iona met in one of the most anticipated games in recent MAAC memory. The Gaels got off to a blistering start, cruising for much for the evening to pick up a crucial road win.

Now, the two teams meet again tonight with the league’s auto-bid on the line and only one of the teams holding any sort of chances for an at-large berth, that being the Hawks of Monmouth. However, those chances are not ones that the causal better would feel comfortable laying down a mortgage on, meaning that tonight’s game could be the last chance for either to earn their spot in the Big Dance.

Last time they met, it was the A.J. English show, as the Iona go-getter notched 31 points–including five threes and eight free throws. Monmouth’s Justin Robinson poured in 21 points (slightly above his season average) but failed to get much support outside of that. Following the performances by each of these young men should give us a pretty good idea of who is going to steal the show this evening.

Ultimately, both of these teams are talented enough to put a scare into Power 5 opponents they might get matched up with on Selection Sunday, especially Monmouth, as they’ve already proven the ability to beat the big boys.

Who will get the chance between Monmouth and Iona? Tune into the MAAC tonight to find out.
