Mookie Betts is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate and is on track to return to the big league club next week, the Oklahoma City Dodgers said Thursday.
The organization announced that Betts is slated to appear in games for Oklahoma City on Friday and Saturday as part of the rehabilitation stint, the report says.
Per the report, Betts has been on the injured list since April 5 after suffering a right oblique strain a day earlier on a check swing during an at-bat. At the time of the injury the team expected him to miss about four to six weeks, the report says.
Before the injury, the shortstop was hitting .179 with two home runs and seven RBIs through the Dodgers’ first eight games, the report says.
The Dodgers open a seven-game homestand Friday, playing three against the Atlanta Braves and then four against the San Francisco Giants, the report says. The scheduled two-game rehab assignment and that homestand timeline leave Betts on track to rejoin the big league roster next week if the club follows the current plan, per the report.
