NBA News: Anthony Davis Won’t Play In Upcoming FIBA World Cup

According to the ESPN, Anthony Davis has opted not to take part in the USA Basketball training camp and will skip the upcoming FIBA World Cup in China, which will be played late in the summer.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Ramona Shelburne reported that the Brow would consider playing for the USA national team in the 2020 Olympics, but at the moment, he wants to focus on preparing for the next NBA season, his first with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The former New Orleans Pelican was a member of the 2012 USA Olympic roster and also on the national team that played in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, so this news came as a bit of a shock for the fans, but Davis reckons that his NBA career is more important right now. Davis is eager to help the Lakers to compete for the NBA championship and to develop a strong connection with LeBron James and the rest of the squad.

Davis’ withdrawal will open a spot for a center or power forward on Gregg Popovich’s USA national team, and Blake Griffin or the No. 1 pick overall Zion Williamson could enter the roster instead. However, we will know more when the USA Basketball training camp ends.
