Golden State Warriors All-Star point guard Stephen Curry says he is ready to lead the new-look Warriors and that he’s prepared for the “new challenge” after changes this summer.

The Warriors lost superstar forward Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, DeMarcus Cousins and Shaun Livingston. Although they added D’Angelo Russell and Willie Cauley-Stein, it’s evident that Golden State’s squad is weaker now. Considering that Klay Thomson will likely not return to the floor from a torn ACL before January, the Warriors could even struggle to reach the playoffs next season.

Curry stressed that he is not mad at Kevin Durant for choosing to move away from Oakland, and he understands him.

“I mean, the three years that we had were special,” Curry said. “With KD, we had three straight Finals appearances. We won two of them, and we accomplished a lot as a group. Everybody talks about the amount of talent that we had on that team, but that doesn’t guarantee that you can figure it out on the court, that you can put all the pieces together to be successful.”

While Thompson’s out, Curry will try to develop good chemistry with the newly arrived Russell. Even though D-Lo and Curry haven’t spent much time together, Curry believes they will get along just fine.

“The chemistry will develop quickly. We’ll be really purposeful about that and trying to set the tone for how we’re going to play this year,” Curry said. “It’s about encouraging each other and having confidence that we’ll bring the best out of each other. Then when Klay [Thompson] gets back [from a torn ACL] as well, add him to the backcourt mix. It’s going to be fun.
