NBA News: Johnson Still Hopeful He Can Play in NBA

Joe Johnson is on fire in the Big3 League this season, leading the league in points, assists, and four-pointers while he is also second in rebounds. Iso Joe is easily the best player in Ice Cube’s league, but despite his monstrous displays, the 38-year-old is still not sure whether he’ll stick with the Big3 after this season.

“I’m not sure about the longevity in it for me,” Johnson told The Crossover. “I got two kids. I have a son that’s 12 and a daughter that’s five. The summer is obviously our down time for us to spend a lot of time together. I’m not sure — I can’t promise you I’ll definitely be back next season or the year after that. I don’t really know.”

Also, Johnson spoke about the Brooklyn Nets and arrival of two superstars — Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving — saying that he saw such big moves coming to the Barclays Center.

“Yeah, yeah, I could see it,” Johnson said. “The Nets are a great organization, a great franchise, man. I definitely enjoyed my duration there. And it was fun. Playing in New York, I had a great time. Kyrie being from Jersey, Kevin Durant being from D.C., they are both from around the area. It’s like home to both of them. I think they’re going to do great.”

Sadly, this could be the last summer we watch one of the best isolation players in the history of the NBA. However, Johnson would like to return to the NBA and is open to the idea.

“Yes, I’d love to get back and play in the NBA,” Johnson said. “It’s not my ultimate goal, it wasn’t my goal getting into the BIG3. But if the opportunity presents itself, I would take upon the challenge. I would love to. But, I got a job to do, and my agent has a job to do. I’m not sure about the momentum or how it’s going, but I just focus on what I can do and what I can control.”

Johnson spent 17 years in the NBA, playing for the Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets. Johnson was without a team last year, and if he fails to make his return to the NBA this season, he will likely retire.
