NCAA Hoops Betting Preview – January 2

It’s time again for your NCAA Hoops betting preview, as we continue into the new year.

With the parties behind us and the first Monday of the year upon us, it is time to do some work.

We are being supplied with a decent slate for Monday, so let’s take it to the court!

Among the first four games that tip-off at 2 p.m ET, we have a MAAC contest to discuss.

Siena is making the trek up to Buffalo to face Canisius, and that is no fun trip to make. Trust me, I know it well being a New Yorker myself. The trip from Albany to Buffalo takes close to five hours by bus. Boring is a word we can use to describe the scenery as well upstate. Most people think of New York and envision tall buildings and a mass amount of people. Once you travel about a half-hour north of Albany, you feel like you are in Montana.

I am trying to figure out why the hell Canisius is only laying three points at home? Siena’s defense is… wait, did I say Siena and defense in the same breath? Sorry about that, because they don’t have a defense.

Do you know what you don’t need when you are not playing well on defense in the MAAC? The Griffs can put up 90 against anyone in this conference, and today will be no exception. Canisius should easily fly through this game, and a -3 is almost too good to be true.

Play:
Canisius -3 vs Siena

With a 4:30 p.m. start in Philly, Drexel is hosting Northeastern at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Since I am a huge fan of first half betting, we will likely be seeing a -2 on Northeastern to be up a bucket at the half. Drexel is simply having a disastrous season so far, and their defense has been a sieve as well.

The Huskies have taken the last three meetings against Drexel, and are riding a nice five-game win streak.

In my opinion, it will reach six, and Northeastern will have a nice lead at the mid-way point.

Northeastern -2 1st Half vs Drexel

Did you see that Wheelock is taking on New Hampshire? Um, okay then, just wanted to make sure you all knew that big game is going on today!

Moving on, Florida International people. Raise your hand if you think those Golden Panthers will win more than 8 games this year. Let’s discuss their four wins on the season — Florida Memorial, Ave Maria, Binghamton and North Florida. Today, they are a PK against Western Kentucky, who has tore up everyone in Conference USA recently. The Toppers are 8 – 1 in their last nine games vs Conference USA teams.

I get that Western Kentucky doesn’t travel well on paper. They have a 2 – 7 record away from home including the neutral site game against Washington. How many of those losses are to cupcake squads? Okay, Detroit Mercy and Eastern Kentucky might not bode well for that comment, but who cares.

I have zero faith that FIU can win conference games, so I just see them as a fade.

Pick:
Western Kentucky 0/PK vs Florida International

Continuing with our NCAA Hoops betting preview, I have been to the last two Manhattan vs Marist games. I know this because there is my ticket from last year’s game

Our hockey writer, Casey Bryant, goes to Marist and calls their hockey games. He, Lisa and I attended that game together, and we watched Marist fall apart as they usually do.

I think I should be at this game, considering I live about 8 minutes from the Marist campus. I guess I need to call Casey, and have him get us in!

When he gets us in, I am going to bet the same play I have bet each time I went to the game. Last year the Jaspers were 1 point favorites and won by 8. Two years ago, Manhattan was favored by 4, and won by 13.

This year, Manhattan is a -1 favorite again, and again, I put them on the board!

Manhattan 1- vs Marist

Keep in mind that there are also four big bowl games in NCAA Football today. Pretty nice to have NCAA Hoops betting and NCAA Football betting action on the board.
