The New Hampshire Motor Speedway 300 Preview

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway 300.

The 20th Annual Bad Boy Off Road 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway is set to go off on Sunday, September 25th at 2:00 p.m. ET. The race will be televised on the NBC Sports Network. Carl Edwards will start from the pole position from his qualifying efforts on Friday.

At New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2015, Matt Kenseth passed the #4 Freaky Fast Chevrolet of Kevin Harvick with three laps to go. Unfortunately, Harvick ran out of gas and watched hopelessly as Kenseth drove on to victory.

As a result, Matt Kenseth punched his ticket to the second round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Furthermore, Kenseth crossed the finish line in first once again in the spring race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July. In that contest, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Matt Kenseth pulled away from Tony “Smoke” Stewart and won by almost two seconds.

Last week at Chicagoland, Martin Truex, Jr. was victorious after a late race comeback. In that affair, Truex Jr. lost a lap under green only to make it up and then charge through the field to earn his third win of the season. Truex Jr. qualified in the second spot and led 123 laps in the spring race. The Furniture Row Racing driver finished out that day in 16th.

Roger Penske Racing’s Joey Logano was born in the great state of New Hampshire. The speedster calls New Hampshire Motor Speedway his home track. Logano’s efforts here prove that this is one of his best venues. He won here once in 2009 and then again in 2014 with Joe Gibbs Racing.

At this time last year, Joey Logano was wrapping up his sixth win of the season. This year has been a different story for the aggressive driver but he did finish off  his day at Chicagoland in the 2nd spot.

With one week of the Chase to the Sprint Cup championship complete, Kevin Harvick and Chris Buescher have their work cut-out for them. As it stands, neither racer would move on to the second round of 12 after their debacles at Chicagoland.

Stewart/Hass Racing’s veteran driver is completely capable of winning at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick was the third fastest competitor in the only round of practice on Friday but fell short in his qualifying efforts later on. Harvick’s ditech Chevrolet starts in the 19th position for the Bad Boy Off Road 300.

Chip Ganassi Racing #42 Target Chevrolet driven by Kyle Larson had a faulty transmission that dropped him to the back of the field in last weeks race. Nevertheless, he was quick on race day. A flat tire late in the race cost him valuable spots and he finished out the event in Chicagoland in 15th.

Kyle Larson was the fastest car in the first practice round on Friday. He kept all of that speed in the qualifying round and will start out of the sixth position. If Larson can avoid any on track trouble and have a solid day in the pits, he could find himself at the front in the closing laps at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson looked like he had solved his issues at the half way point of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 in Chicagoland. The six-time NASCAR champion led the most laps but fell off late and finished back in the field.

So far, Jimmie Johnson has rallied once again and looks to have brought that speed from Illinois to New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Johnson was average in practice but qualified in fourth.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch is doing just fine. Currently, he is sitting third place in The Chase’s standings. The reigning Sprint Cup champion is assured to make it to the Round of 12 unless he suffers a complete collapse in the next two races.

Kyle Busch is tied with Brad Keselowski with a 2016 season-high four wins. He was the 11th fastest driver in the practice round and qualified just out of the top ten in the 11th position.

Kyle Busch has notched top-10 finishes in six of his last seven races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. It’s my opinion that you can bet the feisty racer will be in the thick of it at the conclusion of the race on Sunday.
