New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes Odds

Playing the role of favorites will be the Hurricanes (-160), while the Devils are offering moneyline odds of +140 and the Over/Under (O/U) has been set at an even 6 goals (-110 for the over, -110 for the under).

Carolina is 8-11 straight up (SU) and has lost 6.0 units for moneyline bettors this year. That early-season winning percentage is fairly close to what the team managed during the 2017-18 season (36-46). Through 19 regular season outings, 11 of its games have gone under the total, while seven have gone over and none have pushed. This year, the team’s 4-6 SU at home.

The Hurricanes have converted on just 16.2 percent of their power play opportunities this season, a mark that’s ranked 24th overall in the NHL. On the other hand, their penalty kill is rated 28th overall, and they’ve successfully killed off 72.6 percent of all penalties.

Averaging 27.8 saves per game with a .903 save percentage, Scott Darling (two wins, four losses, and one OT loss) has been the principal option in goal for the Canes this season. Darling did just play yesterday, however, so head coach Rod Brind Amour might choose to rest him and turn to Petr Mrazek instead (3-5-5 record, .880 save percentage, 2.75 goals against average).

On the other hand, New Jersey is 8-10 straight up (SU) and has lost 1.4 units for moneyline bettors this year. Through 18 regular season outings, nine of its games have gone over the total, while six have gone under the total and just two have pushed. As the road team, the Devils are 2-7 SU so far.

The Devils have converted on 22.2 percent of their power play opportunities this season, a mark that’s right around league average. On the other hand, its penalty kill unit is ranked sixth overall and it’s successfully killed off 83.3 percent of all opponent power plays.

Keith Kinkaid (2.62 goals against average and .916 save percentage) has been the main option in goal for New Jersey. Kinkaid is averaging 27.2 saves per game and has eight wins, eight losses, and two OT losses to his credit.
