The Pelicans will be hoping for similar success after comfortably covering the 9-point spread against the Phoenix Suns in their last matchup, 119-99. The total points for the game (218) finished under the O/U total of 228.5. The Pelicans, who came into the game averaging an offensive rebounding percentage of 24.7, had a phenomenal mark of 37.2 and had a free throw rate of 0.279 (above their season average of 0.230). New Orleans rallied around Anthony Davis, who was the top scorer from either team with 26 points on 7-for-18 shooting.

The total points for the game (240) finished well over the projected point total of 217. Getting to the charity stripe was one of Toronto’s largest advantages. They made 40 trips to the line, while New York went just 22 times. With 19 points and 10 rebounds, Jonas Valanciunas had a good game for Toronto.

The prolific offense of Toronto (second in the NBA with an offensive efficiency of 114.8) will square off against the porous defense of New Orleans (24th in the league with a defensive efficiency of 109.6). The Raptors figure to have the advantage on that end of the court.

New Orleans holds records of 6-6 straight up (SU) and 5-7 against the spread (ATS). Of the Pelicans’ 12 games, six have finished over, five have finished under and one has pushed.

Meanwhile, Toronto owns records of 12-1 SU and 8-5 ATS. Of the Raptors’ 13 games, 9 have finished over the total.

Both teams have had a player step their game up over their last five games. Jrue Holiday (22.6 points, 10.0 assists and 1.4 steals) has been great for the Pelicans while Serge Ibaka (19.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals) has contributed greatly to the Raptors.

After the Raptors won both games against the Pelicans last season, these teams will meet for the first time this year. In the last game, Toronto won 125-116. Toronto’s free throw rate was their biggest strength over New Orleans. The Raptors had a rate of 0.250, while the Pelicans posted a mark of 0.154.
