John Tavares and the Islanders continue to roll.

NHL Odds: The New York Islanders have been a nice surprise this season in NHL betting as they have cashed in many times for bettors this season. The team is finally getting quality goaltending to go along with their scoring and so far this season everything is clicking. Let’s take a closer look at the top NHL betting team, the New York Islanders.

Nice Young Corp of Players for New York

The Islanders have a really good group of young, talented players led by center John Tavares. He is the star player on the team that will be moving to Brooklyn next season. In the Islanders last season at Nassau Coliseum, the team is playing really well.

“They drafted me, invested a lot in me as far as being part of turning things around,” Tavares said recently to ESPN, “And I thought it would be something pretty special to be part of bringing the Islanders back to competing for the playoffs and hopefully competing for Stanley Cups every year. We know the history of the team; for many years there have been tough times.”

Islanders 19-8 Start

New York won 19 of their first 27 games and in many of those games they were underdogs and paid a nice price to NHL bettors. The team has been outstanding at home going 10-3 and profitable on the road going 9-5. The Islanders are averaging 3 goals per game while allowing 2.7 per contest. The start for the team this season has been excellent and the fans are excited as the team has only made the playoffs twice in the last decade.

“We have a tremendous fan base,” Tavares said. “From the outside I know it doesn’t always seem that way, but this season being at the Coliseum and seeing the crowds we’ve had, the support we’ve had has been absolutely tremendous. It’s a playoff atmosphere really every night.”

One of the keys this season has been Jaroslav Halak in goal. He has provided quality goaltending which is something the Islanders haven’t had in recent seasons. The defense in front of Halak has been much better this season with players like Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy coming in just before the season. The defense still isn’t great but when the offense is scoring three goals per game the defense just has to be average for this team to win.

Flames another Surprise Team

Another good team to bet this season has been the Calgary Flames. They have been winning as an underdog on a regular basis this season under head coach Bob Hartley. The team is averaging three goals per game and allowing just 2.5 goals per contest. They are getting quality goaltending from Jonas Hiller and Karri Ramo and their young players are producing. The team won 17 of their first 28 games and bettors have been cashing in at nice prices on this team all season.
