The Voice

The Rangers are only 19-31 SU and 19-30 ATS. They’ve lost 6.0 units for moneyline bettors and 15.9 units against the spread (ATS). Texas has a 3-4 ATS mark over its last seven games and the total has gone under in four of those seven. The Yankees have gone 31-14 SU this year and are 25-19 ATS. In total, the team’s accumulated 10.8 units for bettors taking the moneyline and 5.5 units ATS. New York has covered the spread four times in its last seven games and the over has cashed in five of those seven.

Texas games have an over/under record of 24-22-3 so far in 2018. New York has been a decent over bet with a total record of 26-17-1.

The southpaw CC Sabathia is the projected starter for the visiting Yankees. Sabathia is 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 33 strikeouts. He has yet to face the Rangers this year and did not record a start against them in 2017, either.

The Rangers will turn to righty Doug Fister (1-4, 3.43 ERA), who has 33 strikeouts and 15 walks as well as a WHIP of 1.37. Fister only made one start against the Yankees in 2017 (1-1, 3.72 ERA and six strikeouts across nine and 2-third innings).

New York’s pitching staff allowed 4.1 runs per game and its starters own a 3.92 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 8.54 K/9. The bullpen has logged an ERA of 3.31, along with a WHIP of 1.20 and a K-per-9 of 12.51.

The Yankees offense has slashed .256/.344/.468 on its way to 5.9 runs scored per game in 2018, including 6.5 runs per game over the team’s last 10 games and 6.8 per game over the team’s last five contests (3-2 SU).

Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have led New York’s offense. Judge is slashing .281/.412/.556 with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and 35 runs scored, while Stanton (.263/.340/.514) has produced 11 homers, 28 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

Judge did not do especially well on the road last year, maintaining a slash line of .257/.405/.533 across 343 plate appearances (compared to his overall season line of .284/.422/.627).

In the other dugout, Texas’ pitching staff has allowed 5.3 runs per game overall this year. Its starters have a 5.15 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 7.3 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 4.20 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 8.2 K/9.

The Texas hitters have produced 4.1 runs per contest, including 4.3 per game over its last 10 games and 5.2 per game over their last five. The team has hit .181/.306/.335 over its last five games and is 2-3 SU during that stretch.

Nomar Mazara and Shin-soo Choo have led the way for the Rangers’ hitters this year. Mazara is slashing .270/.338/.492 with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and 28 runs scored, and Choo’s line sits at .249/.335/.392 with six homers, 21 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

Compared to his total season slash line of .253/.323/.422, Mazara didn’t seem to enjoy hitting against left-handed pitchers last season, slashing .228/.286/.317 over 133 plate appearances.

The Yankees have gained 4.3 units and are 16-13 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher this season. The over has hit in 19 of those games, as opposed to nine that’ve hit the under in such games. On the other hand, the Rangers have lost 3.4 units and are 4-9 ATS when facing a left-handed starting pitcher. The over’s hit in seven of those games, compared to four that’ve gone under.
