Washington (-160) is the favorite over New York (+150) and oddsmakers have set the Over/Under for this game at 7.5 runs (+100 for the over and -120 for the under). Bettors can also wager on the game’s runline with the current odds sitting at -145 for the Yankees +1.5 runs and +125 for the Nationals -1.5.

The Yankees are 28-12 SU and are 22-18 against the spread (ATS). They’ve accumulated 9.5 units for moneyline bettors in the season’s early going and 3.8 units ATS. New York is 3-4 ATS over its last seven games and the total has gone over in four of those seven. The Nationals, on the other hand, are 24-18 SU and 22-20 ATS. The team has lost 0.5 units for moneyline bettors while earning 2.8 units ATS. Washington has covered the spread five times in its last seven games and the total has gone under in five of those seven.

Nationals games have had an over/under record of 18-22-2 thus far in 2018. Yankees games have gone over 23 times, gone under 16 times and pushed on one occasion.

CC Sabathia is getting the nod for the visiting Yankees. The southpaw Sabathia is 2-0 with a 2.23 ERA and 28 strikeouts. He has yet to face the Nationals this year and did not record a start against them in 2017, either.

The Nationals are sending righty Max Scherzer (7-1, 1.69 ERA) to the mound. Scherzer has 91 strikeouts and 13 walks to his credit, as well as a 0.82 WHIP. Scherzer did not record a start against the Yankees in 2017.

Washington’s pitching staff has allowed 3.7 runs per game overall this year as a unit. The club’s starting pitching staff has an ERA of 2.91, a WHIP of 1.04 and a strikeouts-per-nine of 10.1. The bullpen has a 4.41 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 9.8 K/9.

The Washington offense is putting up 4.5 runs per outing, including 3.9 per game over its last 10 games and 2.8 per game over its last five. The team has hit .231/.289/.410 over its last five contests and is 4-1 SU during that span.

The Nationals’ offense has been led by Bryce Harper and Matt Adams. Harper is hitting .236/.400/.543 with 13 home runs, 30 RBIs and 30 runs scored, while the line for Adams stands at .274/.389/.642 with 10 homers, 25 RBIs and 18 runs.

Harper saw a decline in production when facing lefties at home last season. Over 69 such plate appearances, he slashed .295/.362/.328 (his overall season line was .317/.411/.596).

For the visitors, New York’s pitching staff allowed 4.2 runs per game and its starting pitchers own a 3.76 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 8.59 K/9. The bullpen has an ERA of 3.53, along with a WHIP of 1.19 and a K/9 of 12.77.

The Yankees offense has slashed .251/.343/.444 on its way to 5.8 runs scored per game this year, including 5.9 runs per game over the team’s last 10 games and 6.2 per game over the team’s last five outings (3-2 SU).

Right fielder Aaron Judge and shortstop Didi Gregorius have led New York’s hitters. Judge is hitting .311/.440/.601 with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 33 runs scored, while Gregorius (.260/.349/.548) is up to 10 homers, 31 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Maintaining a slash line of .257/.405/.533 across 343 plate appearances, Judge did not do especially well on the road last year (compared to his total season slash line of .284/.422/.627).

The Yankees have gained 5.0 units and are 15-12 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher this season. The over has hit in 18 of those games, compared to eight that’ve hit the under against righties. On the other hand, the Nationals have lost 7.5 units and are 6-7 ATS when facing a lefty starter. The over has hit in three of those games, compared to nine that went under.
