Santos head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda has provided an update on Neymar’s recovery from his recent knee surgery, emphasizing that the club will take a cautious approach in managing his return to the field. Neymar, who underwent surgery in December, is making steady progress in his rehabilitation, according to Vojvoda.
Speaking to reporters, Vojvoda expressed satisfaction with Neymar’s recovery so far but reiterated that there is no timeline set for his return to competition. “We are encouraged by Neymar’s progress, but we are not rushing him back,” Vojvoda said. “His health and long-term fitness are our primary concerns.”
Neymar’s operation in December came in response to a knee injury that had sidelined him for an extended period. While details of the injury and subsequent surgery have not been fully disclosed, sources close to the team indicate that the procedure went well and early signs of rehabilitation have been positive.
The 34-year-old forward rejoined Santos in 2025 after an extended period in Europe playing for clubs including FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. His return to Santos, the club where he began his professional career, generated significant excitement among supporters. However, the injury interrupted his anticipated comeback campaign.
Vojvoda made it clear that the team’s focus is on ensuring Neymar has a fully successful recovery rather than pushing him into action prematurely. “We have a plan in place for Neymar’s rehabilitation, and we are monitoring him closely with the medical staff. Only when he is ready from both a physical and technical standpoint will he be considered for selection,” the coach said.
Santos continues to compete in domestic and international competitions, and while Neymar’s absence is felt, the team is committed to maintaining its performance without compromising the player’s well-being. Vojvoda also pointed out that Neymar remains actively involved with the squad, attending training sessions and offering guidance to younger players.
There is optimism within the club that Neymar will return to action later in the season, but all decisions will be driven by medical assessments and the player’s readiness.
“We know how important he is to this team, both on and off the pitch. Neymar is showing great professionalism during this period, and we have full confidence in his return when the time is right,” Vojvoda concluded.
