NFL Fantasy: Biggest Busts From Week 6

CJ-Anderson

Injuries and upsets headlined Week 6 of the NFL season, and through these injuries and upsets, many players had lousy fantasy games. Expectations were much higher for these players going into Week 6. Some were coming off of bye weeks, looking refreshed and ready to have big games. Others were hampered by injuries, both minor and severe, with the worst potentially ending the season for a big named quarterback. Here are the biggest busts from Week 6 of the NFL season.

Quarterback – Aaron Rodgers

18 Passing Yards, 0 Rushing Yards, 0 TDs

It is almost a shame to put Aaron Rodgers in this slot for the week, but after he failed to put up enough passing yardage for a single fantasy point, he is the most significant fantasy bust at quarterback for Week 6. Rodgers broke his collarbone this week and may now be out for the rest of the season. The loss of Aaron Rodgers is a huge blow to both the Green Bay Packers and anyone who drafted him in fantasy this season.

Running Back – C.J. Anderson

17 Rushing Yards, 0 Receptions, 0 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

Coming off his bye week, C.J. Anderson should have had a much better game against the New York Giants. The New York Giants had given up at least 111 rushing yards in every game this season prior to Week 6 when they limited Anderson and the Denver Broncos offense to just 46 yards on the ground. To make matters worse, the Broncos offense passed for 375 yards with none of them going to Anderson. This was Anderson’s worst fantasy game since November 2015. It came as a complete shock as the Broncos were 14-point favorites and appeared to be in great position to play with a lead and feed plenty of carries to Anderson. That’s not how it played out.

Wide Receiver – Chris Hogan

1 Reception, 19 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

Chris Hogan had been terrorizing defenses the last four weeks of the season, catching five touchdowns while averaging over five catches for about 70 yards receiving. In Week 6 against the Jets, Hogan failed to keep his hot streak alive, catching just one pass for 19 yards. Hogan and the Patriots get the Atlanta Falcons next week. Last time Hogan played the Falcons, in Super Bowl LI, the former lacrosse player caught four passes for 57 yards. Watch for Chris Hogan on the injury report this week, as the wide receiver hurt his ribs in Week 6, which may have been partly to blame for his subpar performance.

Tight End– Jared Cook

2 Reception, 14 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

With Derek Carr returning from injury, the Oakland Raiders were hoping for their offense to get back on track and put up more than 16 points. In Sunday’s game, the Raiders offense continued to struggle, with Cook having his worst fantasy day of the season. The Raiders have a short week, playing the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night. Oakland may not have enough time to sort out their offensive woes, and Cook could be in for another poor performance in Week 7.

Defense – Atlanta Falcons

20 Points Allowed, 289 Yards Allowed, 0 Sacks, 1 Interceptions

Although the Atlanta Falcons defense may not be the most revered in the NFL, they were expected to have a better day against a Miami Dolphins offense that ranked last in points per game and yards per game, going into Week 6 of the NFL season. The Falcons finished the week with fewer fantasy points than the Detroit Lions, who lost 52-38 to the New Orleans Saints. This defense desperately needs Vic Beasley back to generate pressure when the Falcons take a lead into the fourth quarter.

Kicker – Brandon McManus

1 FG Made 20-29, 1 PAT, 1 Missed FG 30-39, 1 Missed FG 50+

Brandon McManus has been one of the most consistent kickers in fantasy the last few seasons but had a dud of a game on Sunday night in a surprising loss to the New York Giants. McManus is making just 61.5% of his field goals this season, a far cry from his 80.0% average. What is most concerning may be that he has missed five of his ten field goal attempts at home, in an environment typically known for being extra friendly to kicks.
