NFL Fantasy: Biggest Busts From Week 7

Marshawn Lynch

With some shutouts, blowouts, injuries and ejections, Week 7 had no shortage of fantasy busts. For some of these players, a bad game in Week 7 is just a blip on the radar of an otherwise successful. For other players, many of whom are on this list, lousy fantasy games are becoming the norm.  Here are the biggest fantasy busts from Week 7 of the NFL season.

Quarterback– Trevor Siemian

207 Passing Yards, 14 Rushing Yards, 0 TDs, 1 Interception, 1 Fumble Lost

The Denver Broncos and Trevor Siemian leave Week 7 of the NFL season as a massive bust. Siemian finished the day with just 5.68 fantasy points. He has now has failed to top 10 points in two of last three games. That’s after putting up over 20 points in each of the first two games of the season. He’s lucky he did not finish with a much worse fantasy day after the Chargers dropped a couple of sure interceptions.  With six teams on bye in Week 8, starting Siemian may be required. However, if you can avoid it, look elsewhere for a quarterback.

Running Back– Marshawn Lynch

9 Rushing Yards, 0 Receptions, 0 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

Getting kicked out of a game before even hitting 10 yards is a sure fire way to be labelled a fantasy bust for the week. Lynch left the sidelines on Thursday night to intervene in an altercation on the field. He proceeded to put his hands on an official and was promptly ejected from the game. Lynch has topped 50 rushing yards just twice this season. He has not been able to make up for his low yardage with touchdowns (scoring only two through six games). Lynch is currently appealing a one-game suspension he received for his actions on Thursday. He may miss next week or the week after, depending on when a decision can be reached.

Wide Receiver– Demaryius Thomas

2 Reception, 9 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

Sunday was not kind to any member of the Denver Broncos, as the team was shutout for the first team since 1992. The award for worst Bronco and wide receiver in Week 7 goes to Demaryius Thomas. Thomas caught just two passes and could not even reach double-digit receiving yards. The nine yards receiving is the lowest total for Thomas since the 2011 NFL season. With two bad games in the last three weeks, Thomas is now in danger of not topping 1000 yards receiving this season. That’s a total he has topped every season from 2012 to 2016.

Tight End– Austin Hooper

1 Reception, 6 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

Even with a favorable matchup, Austin Hooper struggled on Sunday. He caught just a single pass for a measly six yards. Hooper has not done much since the first week of the season and is probably not worth keeping in your starting line-up. The Falcons play their next two games on the road. In Hooper’s last five road games, the young tight end has not topped ten yards receiving in four of them.

Defense –Arizona Cardinals

33 Points Allowed, 425 Yards Allowed, 1 Sack, 1 Interception

It was a sad day all around for the Arizona Cardinals, who were embarrassed 33-0 by the Los Angeles Rams in England. The Cardinals defense was pushed around all day, giving up 425 yards to a Los Angeles Rams team that had struggled on offense the last two weeks. Excluding the first two weeks of the season, the Cardinals defense has been a disappointment.

Kicker– Matt Bryant

1 PAT, 2 Missed FGs

With one field goal being blocked and the other ringing off the goal post, Matt Bryant left Sunday night’s game with just a single point. It was a bit comical as play-by-play announcer Al Michaels had stated just how reliable Bryant was as a kicker – even in the twilight of his career. Immediately after that, his night went awry.

It was a disappointing performance from one of the NFL’s most reliable kickers. The dense fog in New England may have played a factor in Bryant’s mediocre performance, although the Falcons struggles on offense are not doing Bryant any favors. The Falcons need to improve on offense, to make Bryant a top-12 kicker this season.
