NFL Fantasy: DFS Value For Week 16

Ricky Seals Jones

With many fantasy seasons over, DFS offers a great distraction for those looking for something non-Christmas this weekend. The NFL has scheduled 14 games for Sunday and Monday, the perfect amount for some DFS football. After spending lots of money on the holidays, save some money by grabbing these players in DFS. They offer great potential at a low cost. For Week 16, these are the best values at each position in DFS.

QB – Eli Manning $5200

After the biggest fantasy game of his season, is it time to officially declare Eli Manning as back? Well at just $5200 the value is there to make such a bold statement. There is some discussion that Davis Webb might get some action but that doesn’t seem likely. Interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo clearly stated that Manning is the starting quarterback, though, and that the team is focused on winning.

Manning is coming off his first 400-yard passing performance since Week 6 of 2016. Manning did so with the help of a healthy Sterling Sheppard and Evan Engram. Both are playing again in Week 16, which is a determining factor in Manning’s placement on this list.

The Cardinals are slightly below average against quarterbacks this season. They have allowed less than ten fantasy points three times and over 20 fantasy points on seven different occasions. At $5200, Manning is a great value with a 50% probability of topping 20 fantasy points and an outside shot at over 30 points in Week 16.

RB – Dion Lewis $6000

Against the 32nd ranked Buffalo Bills, Dion Lewis is a superb value (even if he crosses the typical $5500 value threshold). Lewis is the lead back in New England now, providing a combination of skills the other three New England backs offer. This game against the Buffalo Bills is quite important for the Patriots, as any slip up this week or next opens the door for the Pittsburgh Steelers (and maybe even the Jacksonville Jaguars) to grab the top seed in the AFC.

In Lewis’ last game against Buffalo, he rushed for 92 yards on 15 attempts. Lewis did not play against the Bills in 2016, but going back to 2015 Lewis had another productive game. Lewis had 40 rushing yards and a touchdown, plus six catches for 98 yards against Buffalo in his only other game against the Bills in the last six years. Lewis is a great value at home against the Bills weak rush defense.

WR – Damiere Byrd $3500

As a deep-sleeper last week, Damiere Byrd put the fantasy community on watch after he caught three passes for 25 yards and two touchdowns. This week, Byrd and the Carolina Panthers face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rank in the bottom third of the league against wide receivers this season, allowing 16 touchdowns and an average of 190 yards per game to the position.

Expecting Byrd to score two touchdowns again is risky. However, the week before Byrd caught five passes for 37 yards. If he can contribute to the offense by catching a half-dozen passes against the Buccaneers, he could score double-digit fantasy points for a second consecutive week. If Newton plays as he did in Week 15, Byrd could grab another touchdown, making him an even more excellent value.

TE – Ricky Seal-Jones $3500

Any tight end under $4000 against the New York Giants is a value in DFS. The Giants have allowed the most yards and touchdowns to tight ends this season, including two last week to the Eagles. Seal-Jones started his NFL career off super hot, catching three touchdowns in his first two NFL starts. This week will give him a chance to prove he is not just a flash in the pan player, but a legitimate tight end who could be the Cardinals starter next season. With Drew Stanton returning to the starting lineup, the Cardinals offense may move more efficiently, helping Seal-Jones fantasy potential increase. He’s a player on the rise and he continues to be undervalued in terms of DFS. He should put together another nice week for us in this spot against a lousy Giants team.
