NFL Fantasy: Waiver Wire Surfing Week 7

Dion Lewis

Hopefully, with only two teams on bye in Week 7, you do not need the waiver wire to put together a starting fantasy lineup. However, if you are an Aaron Rodgers owner and need a quarterback for Week 7 or you are worried about the injuries to Leonard Fournette, Tyreek Hill or one of your other players going into Week 7, then these are some players you should consider. Here are the best waivers to grab for Week 7 of the NFL season.

Top Quarterback

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Although Brett Hundley of the Green Bay Packers will be the starter for the foreseeable future, if Jameis Winston cannot play in Week 7, Ryan Fitzpatrick is a better add off the waiver wire. Fitzpatrick is a veteran quarterback, who ended Week 6 with 22.60 points, an impressive number for someone being thrust into duty when his team trailed by multiple scores. Fitzpatrick plays the Buffalo Bills in Week 7, who have not been easy on quarterbacks this season. However, Fitzpatrick torched the Bills for 584 yards and three passing touchdowns (with no interceptions) in two starts last season.

Top Running Back

Dion Lewis – New England Patriots

The market for running backs is pretty bare right now, making Dion Lewis one of the few options worth considering going into Week 7. Lewis has led the Patriots in rushing for two consecutive weeks now and has scored a touchdown in two of his last three games. The Patriots have a crowded backfield, but the Patriots have shown in the past that they are willing to lean on the hot hand, which right now is Lewis. If Lewis could get more involved in the passing game, he would be a better option, but as long as he can continue to get around ten touches a week, he is a serviceable fantasy option. Grabbing either Alfred Morris or Darren McFadden is another option, but until it is determined which one will be the lead back, Lewis is a better add.

Top Wide Receiver

Jeremy Kerley – New York Jets

For those looking for an easy add in a PPR league, Jeremy Kerley may be the wide receiver for you. Kerley has caught 95% of his targets this season and is coming off his best fantasy performance of the season, catching two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Between Week 3 and Week 5, Kerley averaged 4.67 receptions per game. The Jets play Miami in Week 7. Kerley caught all five of his targets for 42 yards against Miami in Week 3. Pick up Kerley if you need someone to fill a spot in your lineup this week.

Top Tight End

Tyler Kroft – Cincinnati Bengals

With the news of Tyler Eifert being lost for the season, the role of top tight end for Cincinnati Bengals will go to Tyler Kroft. Kroft had a huge game in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns, catching six of his seven targets for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He followed it up with a quiet game in Week 5, catching four passes for 38 yards. The bye week should help him become more comfortable in the offense. He has a tough matchup in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he should begin to see enough targets to be fantasy relevant, even in tougher matchups. Grab him this week and stash him for later in the season.

Top Defense

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears defense is coming off their best fantasy performance of the season but has been respectable for most of the year. The team has at least two sacks in every game this season, including seven in the last two weeks. The Bears get the Carolina Panthers at home in Week 7. The Bears are averaging 8.50 points on defense in their previous two home games and could replicate similar numbers against a Panthers offense that has been streaky this season.

Top Kicker

Phil Dawson – Arizona Cardinals

If the Arizona Cardinals offense can continue to play as they did in Week 6, Phil Dawson should be a viable option to start at kicker next week versus the Los Angeles Rams. Dawson has kicked well this season, kicking a field goal in five of the Cardinals six games and twice topping double-digit fantasy points this season. Grab Dawson if you need a kicker going into Week 7.
