Truly, you can’t write enough about a guy like Patrick Mahomes. In comparison, the same can be said for Tom Brady.
Think about it this way: it’s like watching two of the greatest rock guitar talents in the history of music. One of them is starting out in their career – and one of them is on the way out after so many hit records.
While you have two mega-watt superstars like these two going at it, some incredible debates are sparked. In fact, we touched on Troy Aikman vs. Mahomes this morning.
Now, FOX Sports’ Undisputed is talking about the already rival pair of signal callers. Moreover the debate all stemmed from Pro Football Focus ranking Brady first and Mahomes sixth through three weeks. No matter where your opinion resides, that’s a pretty big disparity.
And whom better than Shannon Sharpe to get this party started?

First, Sharpe thinks it’s about as blasphemous as it gets. Furthermore, I realize I am always waiting on Sharpe to arrive at a certain point I think he’s getting to; yet he never quite goes in the direction I believe he’s going.
Still, here is his first part of the debate in Sharpe’s mind:
“I’m trying to figure out how can Patrick Mahomes have a higher completion percentage, a higher QBR, more touchdowns, more completions, the same record, more big plays? And be ranked lower than Tom Brady!”
Now, Sharpe also says that Mahomes shouldn’t be slighted because Brady has all the rings. No, in Sharpe’s mind it’s about the right now, not the rings of the past.
“Sometimes you critique it by the Super Bowls. Well we aren’t talking about Super Bowls. No one, even Patriots fans will say that Tom Brady is playing better football than Patrick Mahomes.”
In conclusion, it’s fun to watch both of these guys play. They’re both a flavor of their own – and I think it’s neat what Brady is still doing as he enters his silver fox years. However, it’s hard for me to say anyone on the planet is better than Patrick Mahomes right now, personally. He is just a stallion of a little different breed, it seems.
