For the first time since being fired by the Denver Broncos in 2008, former Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Shanahan has made his way back to the team. Shanahan, in spite of winning back-to-back Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998, was shown the door a decade later after missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.

Needless to say, there were some hard feelings over that with team president Joe Ellis, but apparently that relationship has thawed.

Shanahan posted a 178-144 head coaching record, going 8-6 in the playoffs including the aforementioned two Super Bowl titles. He last coached in the league with the Washington Redskins in 2013 and his name is usually tossed around anytime a new job opens up. His son Kyle is the current head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Is DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket on the ropes?

If DirecTV is going to continue offering NFL Sunday Ticket as a product, they’ll need to repair their suddenly fractured relationship with CBS. CBS affiliates in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, San Francisco, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Detroit, Minneapolis, Miami, Sacramento, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Denver have currently blacked out their stations for DirecTV customers over a contract dispute.

DirecTV is currently runniing this message on its affected CBS stations.

“CBS has removed this channel from your lineup despite our request to keep it available to you. We share your frustration and regret any inconvenience,” it said.

If DirecTV and the CBS affiliates don’t reach an agreement by the beginning of the NFL season, many, if not most AFC games will not be broadcast on the service, rendering it pretty much useless to subscribers.
