NFL News: Robert Quinn Suspended, Browns Trade Duke Johnson

Whatever impact offseason acquisition Robert Quinn was going to make on the Dallas Cowboys pass rush will have to wait two games into the regular season. Thursday, Quinn was suspended by the NFL for violating its performance enhancing drugs policy.

Quinn was allegedly busted over a masking agent which is agent claims is a seizure medication.

Jason Garrett spoke about the suspension Thursday, saying, “We support Robert Quinn. We trust Robert Quinn. We really like everything he’s done for our team since he’s been here. We’re excited about his future with our team.

The former All Pro will be able to return on on Sep. 22 when Dallas hosts his former squad, the Miami Dolphins. Last year with the Dolphins Quinn recorded 38 tackles, nine for a loss, two forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks. The Cowboys traded Miami a sixth round pick for Quinn’s services.

Browns give into Duke Johnson’s trade demands

He’d been trying to get dealt all preseason and Thursday the Cleveland Browns finally found a partner. The Browns shipped disgruntled running back Duke Johnson to the running back-starved Houston Texans in exchange for a 2020 fourth round pick. If Johnson starts 10 or more games, the pick becomes a third rounder.

Johnson is entering his fifth season in the NFL. Last year with Cleveland, he started two games and played in all 16, rushing for 201 yards and catching 47 passes for 429 yards and three touchdowns. He was a third round pick out of Miami in the 2015 NFL Draft.

THURSDAY INJURIES

In addition to Jermaine Kearse going down with a broken leg and Tom Savage heading into the concussion protocol for the Detroit Lions, plenty of other back ups went down in action.

Keke Coutee from the Houston Texans injured his right knee against the Green Bay Packers.

Savage wasn’t the only key back up to exit a game. The Philadelphia Eagles lost Nate Sudfeld to apparent injury to his left arm.

Tight end Ian Thomas injured his ribs against the Chicago Bears.
