NFL Picks: Jets Host Dolphins on Monday Night

Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins look to improve to 7-5 with a win Monday night over the Jets.

NFL Picks: The inconsistent Miami Dolphins are something of a playoff tease although they have also been a surprising under the radar betting value.  It has been a train wreck of a season for the New York Jets clown show has reached absurd proportions.  One has to wonder how much longer fans of the Spearmint gang will continue to fork over top New York dollars for this inept team of quitters.

The New York Jets will host the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on Monday night with coverage on ESPN starting at 8:30 PM ET.  Miami opened as a four point favorite with a total of 41.5.

Miami Covers

Miami is 6-5 straight up, 7-4 against the spread, and 5-6 under the total. The Dolphins are coming off a 39-36 loss at Denver but did get the money as 6.5 point dogs.  The Fish have paid out in five out of their last six games.  Miami has improved this season to rank 10th in the NFL for scoring offense and fourth for total defense.  Miami is still in AFC wild card playoff contention but has no margin for error.

Crash and Burn

The Jets are 2-9 SU, 2-8-1 ATS, and 5-6 under the total.  The Jets are coming off a 38-3 loss to Buffalo.  New York ranks 29th in the NFL for total offense, 30th for scoring offense, and 31st for scoring defense.  During Ryan’s time with the Jets the one constant has been poor quarterbacking and that has been best illustrated this year.  Michael Vick, who took over the starting spot from the failed Geno Smith, lost the job back to Smith in last week’s game.  The worst part of the loss to Buffalo was the lack of professionalism by the Jets.  New York never showed up and lacked any interest and fight.

Matchup and Pick

Miami has covered the spread in five out of their last eight away games with five out of their last six away games going under the total.

The Jets have lost five out of their last six home games against the spread with four out of their last seven home games going under the total.

Miami has paid out in seven out of their last 11 games against the Jets with six out of the last seven meetings between the Dolphins and Jets going under the total.  The Dolphins have covered the spread in five out of their last six meetings at New York against the Jets with five out of those six games going under the total.

Miami and under the total is the call.
