Each NFL offseason brings a wave of movement as teams reshape rosters and players seek new opportunities. The 2026 offseason is no different, and several notable names stand out as candidates who might benefit from a change of scenery. Among them are running back David Montgomery, quarterback Anthony Richardson and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, each facing a distinct set of circumstances that could make a new team an appealing option.

David Montgomery is a physical, workmanlike running back whose value comes from his vision, contact balance and reliability in short-yardage situations. In recent seasons, he has often shared carries and worked in committee backfields, limiting his touches and role consistency. A move to a team seeking a clear featured back, or one that leans heavily on a downhill rushing attack, could allow Montgomery to better showcase his strengths. In an offense committed to power concepts and ball control, he could take on a more central role and provide steady production between the tackles.

Anthony Richardson is an intriguing young quarterback whose profile is built on arm strength and athleticism. For a player with his skill set, the surrounding environment is critical. The right situation would pair him with a coaching staff experienced in developing quarterbacks with dual-threat traits and designing schemes that emphasize movement, play-action and defined reads. Transitioning to an organization with a stable offensive system, a clear developmental plan and patience at the position could help Richardson refine his decision-making, accuracy and game management while still leveraging his ability to make plays outside the pocket.

On the defensive side, L’Jarius Sneed has shown he can handle demanding coverage responsibilities. His physical style, versatility to line up inside or outside and willingness in run support make him an asset in aggressive schemes. However, a fresh setting could offer him a more defined role, whether as a primary boundary corner facing top receivers each week or as a multipurpose defensive back who moves around to attack matchups. Joining a team that consistently relies on press coverage, complex pressure packages and adaptable secondary play could highlight his instincts and toughness.

Not every player who appears to need a new environment will ultimately move, and not every move guarantees improved performance. Still, the 2026 offseason presents an opportunity for teams and players to reassess their fit. For established contributors such as Montgomery, developing talents like Richardson and proven defenders like Sneed, a new team, system and locker room could provide the conditions necessary to maximize their abilities and extend their impact in the next phase of their careers.
