NFL Selections: The New York Jets and Chicago Bears had opposite experiences and feelings last week as the Bears looked as good as dead before rallying for a 28-20 win at San Francisco while the Jets had a big signature road win at Green Bay in hand only to hand it back to the Packers in a stunning 31-24 loss that reminded everyone of what they don’t like about head coach Rex Ryan and QB Geno Smith.
The New York Jets will host the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium on Monday night with coverage on ESPN starting at 8:30 PM ET. BetDSI opened with the Jets as a 1.5-point chalk with a total of 45.5.
Bear Market
The Bears are now 1-1 straight up and against the spread with a 1-1 mark on totals. As usual QB Jay Cutler was great against the 49ers and bad in the season opening home loss to Buffalo to combine for 99.7 QB rating and 6-to-2 TD/INT ratio. Defense remains a concern as the Bears rank 22nd overall in the NFL and also rank a poor 30th for rushing offense.
Jets Grounded
The Jets are 1-1 SU, 0-1-1 ATS, and 1-1 on totals. New York ranks 29th in the NFL for passing offense as Smith has an 81.0 QB rating with a 2-to-2 TD/INT ratio. Running back Chris Ivory has been a positive addition with his 6.3 yards per carry and two TD’s. The defense ranks 17th against the pass and allowed Aaron Rodgers 346 yards and three TD passes in the comeback loss at Green Bay.
Matchup and Pick
The Bears have not held good betting value on the road as of late with just four payouts in their last 12 away games as 12 out of their last 15 away games have gone over the total. The Jets have seen improved value with the odds at home as of late as they have paid out in six out of their last nine games at MetLife Stadium with three out of their last four home games going under the total. The Jets have failed to cover their last four meetings with the Bears as just one out of the last eight meetings between the Bears and Jets has gone over the total. The Jets have failed to get the money in their last four home games with the Bears as all four of those games went under the total. Cutler has the big edge over Smith and we’ll call for the Bears in this one.
