NHL Picks: Penguins and Red Wings Showcase Thursday Lineup

NHL Picks: The Detroit Red Wings host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday in the marquee matchup in the NHL. Both teams are off to strong starts this season and each team is scoring a lot of goals so this should be an exciting contest. There are eight games on the NHL schedule for Thursday including this one between the Red Wings and Penguins. Let’s look at all eight games.

Pittsburgh at Detroit – The Penguins have won 7 of the last 10 in this series including two of three last season. Pittsburgh won 4-3 at home and split in Detroit, winning 4-1 and lowing 5-4. Even though the last two meetings in this series went over, seven of the last ten overall in the series have gone under. The teams have split their last ten in Detroit with 7 of the last 10 going under. We’ll look for the Penguins to win this one on the road on Thursday night.

–Other NHL Picks–

  • New York Islanders at Boston – The Bruins will be favored at home but this one may not be easy as the Islanders have played really well to start the season. The Bruins are normally a reliable home favorite so the public will likely back Boston in this one.
  • Chicago at Nashville – The Blackhawks will be road favorites in this one and they could be the way to go. Chicago has been a better bet away from home as they are extremely overvalued at the United Center.
  • Vancouver at St. Louis (NHL Network) – The Blues will be a solid home favorite in this one. The Canucks have played well to start the season but St. Louis is tough to beat at home.
  • Arizona at Minnesota – The Wild have the better offense but the Coyotes have the better defense. The home team should have the edge in this contest.
  • Carolina at Calgary – The Flames will likely be a small home favorite in this game but the Hurricanes could be a live underdog as Calgary is oftentimes untrustworthy laying money at home.
  • Buffalo at Los Angeles – The Kings will be a huge favorite in this one. They have all of the edges but the price may be so high that gamblers avoid taking Los Angeles.
  • Columbus at San Jose – The Sharks will be a big home favorite in what could be a low scoring contest.
