NHRA Mile High Nationals Preview

The Mello Yello Drag Racing Series resumes on July 22nd-24th for the Mile high Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado. The weekend will consist of the first two qualifying rounds at 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. E.T. on Friday, July 22. The final two rounds of qualifying will take place on Saturday, July 23, at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. E.T. The Mile High Nationals final eliminations are scheduled Sunday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. E.T. on Fox sports 1.

Last year, Steve Torrence sped past eight time NHRA Mello Yellow Series champion Tony Schumacher. Torrence captured his first Top Fuel Division win of the 2015 season. The drag racing veteran already has two wins in 2016 and will hope for his third at the Mile High Nationals on Sunday.

A victory could go along way in attempting to run down the current points leader and reigning world champion Antron Brown. Brown already has three wins through the midway point of the season. Racers to look out for also include to watch include Shawn Langdon, who has won back to back contests earlier this season.

Brittany Force will also be ready to improve upon her placement in the standings. She has already won two events in 2016. Doug Kalitta, who has three victories this year, will be looking to take home his fourth triumph of the year.

The Funny Car division seen Jack Beckman claim his third win in the Mile High Nationals last year. He sped past John Force in the final round to claim his victory. Beckman just earned his first win of 2016 season last week in Chicago.

John Force Racing should once again be a favorite to challenge for the title. His team has combined for 11 wins at the Mile high Nationals. Six of those victories were won by Force himself. The current points leader Ron Capps, sits atop of the Funny Car world with four wins on the season. He will be looking to continue his dominance and widen his lead in the point standings.

Furthermore, some other dragsters to watch out for include Robert Hight, a three time champion in Denver. Courtney Force will be driving for the dominate John force Racing. She has claimed glory in 2016. The two time world champ Matt Hagan, will be firing off the line trying to improve his fourth place spot in the point race.

Tim Wilkerson, a two time winner this year, will be looking to make it three on the season. The reigning and defending NHRA Mello Yellow Series champion Del Worsham also has plans to make a mid season sprint into the playoffs.

The Pro Stock division displayed a sizable upset last year in the Mile High Nationals. Larry Morgan flew past 2014’s Bandimere, Colorado winner Allen Johnson in the finals. Johnson was a six-time Mile High Nationals champion and will look to make his tenth straight final round appearance at the speedway.

Summit Racing Equipment Chevy teammates Jason Line and Greg Anderson have dominated the Pro Stock division in 2016. Line, who is the current points leader, has won seven races so far this year. He looks to extend his lead over teammate Greg Anderson. Anderson, has tallied six more wins and made a remarkable ten final appearances. Dragsters such as Bo Butner and two-time and defending world champ Erica Enders, will be looking for their first wins in 2016.

Eddie Krawiec raced to his first victory of the season here last year in Pro Stock Motorcycle division. The speedster already has three triumphs in 2016 and holds the points lead. The impressive field of racers also includes reigning world champ Andrew Hines. The four time Denver winner is coming off a victory in last weeks competition in Chicago. Andrew Hines, who won the most recent event in Chicago.

Jerry Savoie, a former Louisiana alligator farmer,  will look to improve his fourth place spot in the point standings. Third place speedster Angelle Sampey will be raring to go this weekend. She won her first race since 2007  in Englishtown, N.J. a few weeks back.
