Now Gronk Knows Why You Cry

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

But it is something Gronk can never do.

New England Patriots All Universe tight end Robert Paxton Gronkowski will be forced to sit out one game after delivering a Macho Man Randy Savage Flying Elbow Drop onto the back of Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Tre’Davious White’s head after an interception. The Patriots won the game 23-3.

Was it dirty? Let’s take a look.

Yeah. That was a tad harsh from the Gronk. Needless to say, once Gronkowski delivered the People’s Elbow a suspension was coming. The only question was how many games it would be. We got the answer Monday; one.

Is that fair? Sure. Lots of players do lots of shitty things to each other on the football field. It happens. Gronk, as Hulk-like as he is, doesn’t have the reputation as a dirty player. For a first offense, it’s probably OK. There’s always a chance Gronkowski will try to get the suspension lifted, but since his own head coach Bill Belichick called his hit “bullshit,” he probably won’t.

Gronkowski will miss next week’s waste of a game against the Miami Dolphins. He’ll be back for the AFC Championship Part 1 when New England travels to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Gronk’s wrestling skills notwithstanding, he had an excellent game against Buffalo. Gronk caught nine passes for 147 yards.

TOM BRADY TELLS JOSH MCDANIELS TO GET OUT OF HIS FACE

Gronkowski wasn’t the only Patriots player to make some news on the sidelines. Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. got into a verbal altercation with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels after New England’s opening drive ended in a punt. Brady, arguably the best quarterback in the history of the NFL, missed a pass to wide receiver Phillip Dorsett. It happens. McDaniels, for some reason, decided he needed to get in Brady’s face about it.

And he did. Then Tom Brady remembered that he’s Tom Brady. McDaniels, stunned and filling his diaper, suddenly came to that realization too.

Here’s the deal. Josh McDaniels is an outstanding offensive coordinator and one of the best young minds in the league. BUT, he’s never thrown a pass in the NFL or faced down an NFL pass rush. He can help and assist Brady in his job, but he can’t ride his ass. I guarantee Brady knew he’d missed the pass and knew exactly why and what he needed to do to fix it before McDaniels opened his mouth. I understand NFL football can sometimes be a game of egos, but you’re not going to talk down to Brady, McDaniels. Not in this universe.

The Patriots are currently 10-2 and the No. 2 seed in the AFC if the playoffs started today all because of Brady. He leads the NFL in completions with 300. He’s completed 68.5 percent of his passes for an NFL-leading 3,632 yards, 26 touchdowns and just four interceptions. So, yeah. Tell that guy something, Joshy.

BILLS FANS HAVE THEIR OWN THING

Fans of the Detroit Red Wings like to fling the occasional octupus on the ice during games. Nashville Predators attendees are known to toss catfish. The Buffalo Bills crowd, at least when they play the New England Patriots, have developed their own tradition and, I have to say, it’s pretty special.

At some point during their Halloween game against the Patriots last season, an attending fan decided it was time to deliver an early Christmas gift to Tom Brady. And he did so, tossing it on the field right as wide receiver Chris Hogan was being tackled near the end zone.

Yep. It was a surprise dildo. Certainly, there are few worse surprises to get than an unwanted dildo. Brady, at the time, thought the whole thing was pretty funny.

“I did see it,” Brady told reporters last year. “Yes I did, I did see it. I thought it was funny the ref didn’t want to pick it up. He was kicking it. Nobody wanted to reach down and grab it. …That was very unusual. That was a first. Only in Buffalo. That was very unusual.”

Not so unusual now as it’s become it’s own thing as Bills fans once again invited Tom Brady to go f–k himself and handed him the tool with which to do it.

Damn. That one is a monster and begs the question, how did the Bills fan sneak it in?

Regardless, this time it was some ball boys (make your own jokes), who kicked the offending phallus off the playing surface and right into our hearts. That’s twice now at New Era Field, so this will officially become a tradition now. If you’re attending next season’s Bills – Pats game in Buffalo, be sure to wear your anti-dildo protective gear.

TYROD TAYLOR DIDN’T GET THE CHANCE TO LOSE THE GAME

Lastly, I’ve got one last thing to talk about concerning this Bills vs Patriots game. Starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor left the game with a knee injury. He was 9-of-18 at the time for 65 yards and an interception. He added three carries for 32 yards.

Taylor was replaced by rookie Nathan Peterman who did not immediately throw five picks of his own. Other than that, he wasn’t good, finishing 6-of-15 for 50 yards. That’s right, between two quarterbacks the Bills got a total of 85 passing yards.

Taylor has officially suffered a patellar contusion, which is a fancy way of saying he has a bone bruise in his knee. According to head coach Sean McDermott, he’ll reclaim the starting job when healthy, but I don’t see him being very effective with a knee that sore. If Taylor can’t run, he sure as hell can’t pass.

On the plus side, if there was a game to take Peterman out for a test drive it’s Sunday’s match up with the Indianapolis Colts.

“He (Taylor) was in pain, you could see it in his facial expressions,” running back LeSean McCoy said Monday. “He was hurt, it shows he’s a true warrior. I think he came out once the game got out of reach. He played the whole game banged up, hurt. He didn’t complain about it. He still ran when he needed to. He’s tough.”

Taylor has completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 2,090 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He’s carried the ball 69 times for 334 yards and three TDs.
