NXT Recap: Last Woman Standing

It has become a trend recently for NXT to put on surprisngly action-packed episodes in under an hour, and tonight’s episode is no different. The Velveteen Dream Continues to build momentum for himself, while Hideo Itami and Oney Lorcan has a physical brawl. To conclude a historic week in women’s wrestling, tonight’s main event features a Last Woman Standing match between Asuka and Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Velveteen Dream vs. Hoho Lun
Tonight could be the night where Hoho Lun turns everything around. Lun first appeared in front of the WWE Universe during the Cruiserweight Classic, and he has also been occasionally featured on NXT, although he hasn’t found much success.

Velveteen Dream uses his size advantage through the entire match, and it led to him getting the edge over Hoho Lun. After laying Lun out with his own version of a Jackhammer, Velveteen Dream heads to the top rope for an elbow drop, dubbed the Purple Rainmaker. Winner: Velveteen Dream

Backstage Segment
As Asuka was pulling into the arena earlier today, Nikki Cross jumped on the SUV she was in. Cross tried to open the door and pull the champion out, but the Empress of Tomorrow leaves willingly. Security officials interfere and are able to keep them apart before the collide in the main event.

Announcement
Heavy Machinery and the Authors of Pain are yelling at each other in William Regal’s office when Regal interrupts. Regal schedules a match set for a couple weeks from now, where The Authors of Pain will defend their NXT Tag Team Championships against Heavy Machinery.

Oney Lorcan vs. Hideo Itami
A few weeks ago, Oney Lorcan and Hideo Itami squared off and Itami was taking out his frustration out on the Bruiser from Boston. Itami did not decide to finish the match, but he just kept hitting Lorcan with the Go to Sleep over and over again. It seems like Itami has calmed himself down, and now they will have a proper rematch.

As the bell is ringing to begin the match, Lorcan sprints full speed towards Itami and clocks him across the face with a brutal European Uppercut. It seems like Itami breaks his nose and the referee has to call the match off. After a couple of segments, Itami returns to the ring with a plugged nose, ready to take the fight to Lorcan.

Lorcan escapes from the Go to Sleep, but as he lands on the mat, he tweaks his knee. Lorcan told the referee to let the match continue, and the second the referee did so, Itami picked Lorcan up for a successful Go to Sleep. Winner: Hideo Itami

After his victory, Hideo Itami asks for Kassius Ohno to come to the ring. It is unsure what their confrontation is going to be, but the NXT Universe never finds out because Ohno and Itami are attacked by SAnitY. Alexander Wolfe grabs a microphone and says that their mission is to destroy false friendships through chaos. Wolfe then reveals that their leader, Eric Young, is away working on his “master plan.” This attack causes William Regal to announce a tag team match between these four men for next week.

Asuka (c) vs. Nikki Cross – NXT Women’s Championship (Last Woman Standing Match)
This is the first Last Woman Standing Match in NXT history, and there could not be two women more fitting for this type of match. Asuka is the most dominant champion in all of NXT, having the largest undefeated streak in WWE history and holding the NXT Women’s Championship for well over a year. The hard-hitting striker faces Nikki Cross, who is known for a wrestling style that mostly resembles a rabid animal.

Under the rules of a Last Woman Standing Match, there are no pinfalls or submissions. The only way to win is to leave your opponent off of her feet for the referee’s count of 10.

The fight heads to the announce table, where Nikki Cross has set up a ladder. Unfortunately for Cross, her own weapon was used against her when Asuka suplexed her off of the top of the ladder through the announce table. Asuka is barely able to get up before the count of 10 to retain her title. Winner, and STILL NXT Women’s Champion (via count-out): Asuka
