NXT Recap: Another Championship Main Event

Tonight, NXT hosts a championship match that could change the face of NXT forever when Roderick Strong challenges Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship. Along with a huge main event, Kassius Ohno teams up with Hideo Itami to take on SAnitY and there are a lot of interviews with the roster.

Kassius Ohno & Hideo Itami vs. Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe
For the past couple of weeks, Hideo Itami and Kassius Ohno had had a bit of a rough patch in their friendship. It seemed like they were going to patch things up on last week’s episode of NXT, but they were interrupted by Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe, who assaulted them. Tonight, Ohno and Itami have a chance to get revenge.

When Itami needs to tag out of the match, Ohno is at ringside dealing with Alexander Wolfe. When Ohno comes back to the ring apron later in the match, Itami decides to ignore him and fight the rest of the match by himself. Itami misses Killian Dain tagging himself into the match, and he ends up getting hit with a huge senton. Dain then finishes the job by hitting Itami with a full speed cross body to win the match. Winners: Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe

Backstage Segments
Ember Moon is being interviewed by unknown media personnel and she claims that she is ready to challenge Asuka for another shot at the NXT Women’s Championship. Ruby Riot takes a break from her training session to point out that Moon and Nikki Cross got their singles matches against Asuka for the title and now, she believes that it is her turn.

The show then switches gears to an interview with Drew McIntyre, where he is asked his thoughts on the upcoming NXT Championship match between Roderick Strong and Bobby Roode. It is also brought up that Killian Dain of SAnitY, who is undefeated like McIntyre, has made intentions clear to come after the NXT Championship as well. McIntyre does not have a preference as to who his opponent is because he believes that he can defeat any of them to win the championship and become part of a historic lineage of titleholders.

The last interview of the night is with the Iconic Duo of Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. Apparently, Billie Kay just celebrated her birthday and Peyton Royce was the only one to wish her a happy birthday or get her a gift. They are not angry about anything else; Billie Kay just wants cake.

Announcements
After being betrayed by Tommaso Ciampa at NXT TakeOver: Chicago and suffering some injuries in the process, Johnny Gargano will return to NXT next week. Gargano has been completely silent on social media since the attack, so this will be the first time Gargano says anything in public since

There is a brief highlight video of a match between Bianca Belair and Aliyah in a battle to qualify for one of the 32 spots in the Mae Young Classic. In a bit of a surprise, the newcomer Belair would defeat Aliyah and be entered in the tournament.

Bobby Roode (c) vs. Roderick Strong – NXT Championship
The feud between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong is one that turned personal very quickly. It started off simple, with Strong pursuing the NXT Championship (like all NXT Superstars should do). Roode then started throwing personal jabs at Strong, like how he was not “man” enough to take the title from him. He continued this war of words in a backstage brawl. When Strong got to the arena with his wife and son, Roode told his wife to give him a call if she ever wanted to be with a “real man.” This changed Strong’s intentions from just capturing the championship to also taking out Roode.

After hitting his signature suplex backbreaker, Roderick Strong pins Bobby Roode and gets the three count. However, the referee reverses his decision because Roode’s right leg was under the bottom rope. Roode uses the confusion to get the jump on Strong, hitting two Glorious DDTs. The first is outside the ring, right in front of Strong’s family, and the second is in the center of the ring to finish the match. Winner, and STILL NXT Champion: Bobby Roode
